Hey Steve! Thanks for commenting re: my comments re: musical moments. Yep, I do love all those, and you're right about the "but" before "the sky" in APLB... I'm glad you also love those moments in Goose Eggs, Waltz, and Divers; and that's so interesting about the "a" sound pronunciation! I never consciously realized that the pronunciation was part of what was generating the internal cringing process when hearing Lady in Red, haha! And thanks for putting part of what I am drawn to in En Gallop into words - the interplay between hesitancy and confidence, yes.
Overall, I feel equally compelled by all her work, I don't think there is a song of hers that I have not felt, at some point, a deep need to put on repeat for days (on headphones, so I don't inflict repetition on others) and let sink into my bones. I realized that sometimes my votes have to do with a certain allegiance I have to a song, because of the time in which I heard it and/or the resonance it struck within me on first hearing... like I have that with Sadie (and lots of MEM), and Sawdust & Diamonds and '81, even though I've probably listened to songs like You & Me, Bess and No Provenance more because they compelled me in a different way that maybe was less instantaneous...? It's hard to choose favorites among favorites!
