Ranking songs is a lot harder than just choosing between two! I had to just go with my gut instinct or I would have been deliberating for hours!

I kept an eye out on Tie 15 on the previous round because I really love Ribbon Bows and wanted it to win (hehe), and I counted 4 for Monkey & Bear, 3 for Ribbon Bows and 2 for You and Me Bess, and I keep counting 9 total votes for that round, so perhaps you could double check that, Steve? In which case Ribbon Bows should be put in the consolation round, I guess
Well, now I feel very foolish indeed. Byron I'm very sorry to have somehow overlooked your. Orr, and thank you under a CPell for pointing it out. It was a perfectly valid vote and I will re-work the results with it included.
The main effects are that Monkey & Bear is the clear winner of tie 15, so Ribbon Bows is relegated to the Consolation Round and is deleted from the new tie 4. I will recalculate the bonus points to take account of byron's vote in the morning
So here's an update from my hasty note of last night. Thank you, too, to solfatara for bringing my error to light as soon as possible, and apologies for the mess.
If under a CPell and claire would be kind enough to re-send their Consolation Round votes with Ribbon Bows included, that would be really helpful. There's no need for you to revisit the main Round Three ties, though, since neither of you voted for Ribbon Bows which I'm now removing from tie 4.
In summary: I've removed the ½ point and asterisk from the two previously tied songs in tie 15, putting Monkey & Bear as the sole qualifier from that tie, and moving Ribbon Bows into the Consolation Round. Byron's vote has now been added in all ties, and I have recalculated the "bonus points" for the Consolation Round songs. Revised results and Round Three ties are as follows:
Qualified songs are underlined

Here is a list of the songs eliminated in the round just completed, and I invite you to list them in your order of preference (favourite at the top), so as to form the basis of deciding the lower placings. This will be continued through to the end of the tournament. I will allocate 20 points to your first choice, 19 to the next, and so on. However, you also have the option of introducing two "blank lines", to indicate where you think there is a clear division, and if you use these, I will skip a score (so, if your choices begin with Song A first, then Song B, then "----", then Song C, I will allocate 20 to A, 19 to B, and 17 to C, and so on. Finally, the figure shown in the left column will be carried forward as a "bonus" score, according to a formula described in the footnote. A small group of leaders (probably 3) will go forward to join the songs eliminated at the main Round 3 in the next Consolation Round.

Sincerest apologies for the confusion. Since I'm a new user there's a slight delay in posts- it seems that each one goes into waiting for a few days until moderator approval. They're dated according to the day I submitted them though, which is why my posts keep randomly appearing across the thread. Sorry for the inconvenience Steve!
My third round votes will have shown up somewhere a bit earlier in the thread at the same time as this post appears. If it's possible, please add Ribbon Bows as my revised 8th preference for the consolation round. A similar delay is probably occurring with gerry2's posts so keep an eye out for those as well. Again, apologies to all!

I suspect that "Look and Despair" will be a top contender once it is officially released. I really love the YouTube version but I tend to favour studio recordings. Tie 3 and Tie 8 were really hard this time.

Thank you for the message, Byron - and it certainly was no fault of yours. I did not realise that there was a delay for new posters (a sensible consequence of the kitchen spammers, but unfortunate when they are genuine ones like yours and gerry2's), but I feel a little better now that I have an 'esxcuse' for why I missed them ... they just weren't there when I looked that far back, and then they were after I'd moved on a bit. But I'll be more careful moving forward. Thank you for your Round 3 votes, and those of claire and under a CPell (kindly revised), solfatara, Alex Ysoltsev, and Headless_Caboose.

Thank you for your votes, gman_48. If anyone else is planning to vote, please note that you've under half an hour to do so!
And I had better hurry if I am to beat the deadline, so here goes ...
Tie 1 - In California Tie 2 - Cosmia Tie 3 - Kingfisher Tie 4 - Sawdust & Diamonds Tie 5 - Emily Tie 6 - Have One On Me Tie 7 - Only Skin Tie 8 - Baby Birch
(Tie 2 features two songs that have steadily grown in my estimation over the years ... but the Ys Street Band version of Cosmia swung it for me. Tie 3 is a very hard pairing, and both would be worth a place in the last 8 in my opinion, but I had to choose one, and the "We came by the boat load" segment of Kingfisher wins out - just. I'm also sorry to have to vote against Soft As Chalk in Tie 4, but S&D is one of the truly greats - the fact that it's so perfectly reproducible live, with just Joanna and her spider-fingers at work never ceased to amaze me. I very much agree with Headless_Caboose's comments re Look & Despair. Sadie was one of my early favourites from MEM, then it slid down for a while, but now it's on the rise again ... but not enough to oust Only Skin in my affections).
Claire is also quite right to point out how much harder it is to rank songs than to pick between just 2 or 3, or occasionally 4. I was uneasy about using this system, but I felt it was necessary to shorten the Consolation Round. Hopefully we'll have a larger number of people voting next time, and we can dispense with this method. My order in the consolation round is:
"En Gallop" (aka En Gallop!) ---- Flying A Kite Clam Crab Cockle Cowrie Bridges And Balloons Ribbon Bows ---- Esme ’81 Good Intentions Paving Company Ca’ The Yowes To The Knowes On A Good Day Peach, Plum, Pear Does Not Suffice Autumn Jackrabbits Occident No Provenance You And Me, Bess The Diver’s Wife (aka Diver)
(First choice - very easy - one of the very best and sad to see En Gallop not in the top four. As 'ink boy', Flying A Kite had to figure quite highly, didn't it?)

Songs qualifying for the next round are underlined. As you'll see, one pairing ended with the two songs level at 4-4, so I've once again progressed both to the next round.
Tie 1 6 In California 2 Colleen Tie 2 6 Cosmia 2 Swansea Tie 3 4 Go Long 4 Kingfisher Tie 4 6 Sawdust & Diamonds 2 Soft As Chalk Tie 5 7 Emily 1 Easy Tie 6 5 Have One On Me 3 Look And Despair Tie 7 7 Only Skin 1 Sadie Tie 8 6 Baby Birch 2 Monkey & Bear *

I've not yet had time to analyse these votes fully, but it is interesting what a spread of opinions there are. For example, the last two voters (gman_48 and I) gave En Gallop top marks, and claire had it 2nd, but nobody else had it higher than 9th, with two people putting it last-but-one. Flying A Kite scored poorly from almost every voter (except me).
I had intended to progress three or four songs through to the 2nd Consolation Round, depending upon the spread of points, but the winner was so clear that it would be unfair to send any other songs through with Good Intentions Paving Company. Any 'line' drawn below that would be pretty arbitrary, unless we go all the way down to '81, which would make the next stage somewhat cluttered!
Shortly I will post the Draw and details for the next round...
Tie 1 - In California Tie 2 - Kingfisher Tie 3 - Emily Tie 4 - Only Skin
The ties this time around are a no-brainer for me.
1. Monkey & Bear 2. Look And Despair 3. Good Intentions Paving Company 4. Swansea 5. Sadie 6. Soft As Chalk 7. Colleen 8. Easy
The consolation round is much more difficult. First three places, for example, are really hard to determine. And placing any of these songs in the end of the list is a harsh, albeit necessary, thing to do.
