MOSCOW -- Canada picked up two victories on the second day of the World Cup Sevens rugby tournament Saturday. The Canadians crossed for three tries in a 15-14 win over the United States and later rallied against Georgia for a 26-19 victory. Canada, however, had to settle for the Plate quarter-finals -- against Tonga -- due to an inferior points difference. It was a bounce back day for Canada, which lost 31-12 to New Zealand on the opening day. "It was very pleasing today and it shows what spirit there is among the players," said Canadian head coach Geraint John. "We were all very disappointed and embarrassed after the way we played against New Zealand. We did not do ourselves justice and we did not make everyone back home proud -- but we did today. We were well disciplined and also our defence improved." On the womens side, Canada finished second in its pool after losing 20-5 to New Zealand after two wins on the day. The Canadian women opened with a 17-7 win over the Netherlands before cruising past Tunisia 43-0. Canada will face the hosts Russia in the quarter-finals on Sunday. Meanwhile, South Africa cruised into the mens quarter-finals without conceding a point and set up a showdown with two-time champion Fiji at Luzhniki Stadium on Saturday. South Africa put 33 points on Japan and 41 on Scotland to sweep its pool. Meanwhile, Fiji lost to defending champion Wales 19-14 to reach the last eight only as one of the two best second-placed teams. Wales moved into a clash with world series champion New Zealand. The other quarters are: England against Australia and Kenya against. France. Philip Snyman scored South Africas first try of the day 90 seconds into the game against Japan, and his second before halftime. Against Scotland, Cheslin Kolbe scored a hat trick for South Africa. Now, they face the Fijians, who didnt concede a point either until they were overcome by unbeaten Wales. Fiji scored first while Wales had a man in the sin-bin, then Wales struck back through Gareth Davies, Alex Webber and Lee Williams to lead 19-7, a gap too far for Fiji. "If we show that sort of consistency tomorrow anything can happen," Wales captain Adam Thomas said. Fiji had an anxious time before it was confirmed it advanced as one of the best pool runners-up with France. France scored two converted tries in two minutes against Australia to rally from 17-0 down, then Terry Bouhraoua nailed a dropped kick penalty to level the score for their draw. That left Australia as pool winner and France in second. New Zealand and England won their pools after scares. The United States led New Zealand 19-5 before the Kiwis began their comeback with a rare penalty try, tied it 19-19, and scored last courtesy of David Raikuna. England led 14-0 against Argentina, which stormed back to trail 14-12 then lost the ball over the line. That eliminated the Argentines, runners-up in 2009. Kenya danced after Michael Wanjalas late try helped to upset Samoa 17-12, and sent the Kenyans first through to the last eight. "The boys can now relax a little earlier, get the recovery right, and smile," Kenya coach Mike Friday said. "Canada," Bolland said with a smile. "Is that a question?" One day earlier, though, fellow Toronto Maple Leafs centre Nazem Kadri wasnt so sure his home and native land could pull off the win against the United States in the semi-finals of the Olympic hockey tournament. http://www.authentickcroyalsprostore.us ... ls-jersey/. -- Orleans Darkwa ran in from 1 yard with 1:45 left, and the Miami Dolphins rallied from two scores down in the final minutes to beat the Dallas Cowboys 25-20 on Saturday night. .com) - Robert Upshaw made a putback jumper to put 17th-ranked Washington ahead with 1:27 remaining in the game and the Huskies held on to beat Eastern Washington 81-77 on Sunday. . The teams all-time leading scorer, DeRo has won everything there is to win in MLS.A 12-game winning streak has landed the Boston Bruins on top of the TSN.ca NHL Power Rankings, overtaking the St. Louis Blues. The Bruins have been consistently among the top teams for the past few months, but their current run has taken them to the top, despite not having a strength of schedule deficit compared to the Western Conference powers. Moving up this week, the Pittsburgh Penguins go from nine to six. Even though they have just one regulation win in the past six games, the Penguins also got wingers Chris Kunitz and James Neal back from injuries and that provides a relative boost compared to last weeks ranking. The never-say-die Detroit Red Wings are still hanging around in the playoff race, thanks largely to Gustav Nyquist, who has seven goals in the past six games, to help Detroit go 4-1-1 and jump to seventh in the Eastern Conference. The Red Wings, still depleted by injuries, are up from 24 to 21. Heading the otther way, the Toronto Maple Leafs have dropped five straight as goaltender James Reimer has struggled to fill in for injured starter Jonathan Bernier and the Leafs dont play a structured enough game to get by without great goaltending.ddddddddddddAs a result, they sink from 17 to 22. Both the Carolina Hurricanes and Ottawa Senators dropped three spots, to 25 and 26, respectively, not through any great failings of their own, but the Detroit Red Wings, Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames all performed better and/or got healthier. Among other Canadian clubs, the Montreal Canadiens are up one spot, to 12, and the Winnipeg Jets are up two spots to 17. The Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames are both up a couple of places, to 23 and 24, respectively.
