Rallying from a 15-point deficit in the final 10 -minutes , the Atlanta Hawks beat Houston 104-96 on Tuesday, -retaining the NBA's best record with their fifth victory in a row.
Taking advantage of a Rockets' squad playing without suspended NBA scoring leader James Harden, the Hawks had 25 points from Jeff Teague, 18 points from Al Horford and 16 points and 14 rebounds from Paul Millsap.
The Rockets outplayed Atlanta for most of the first three quarters, leading by as many as 18 points despite lacking -Harden's scoring touch as he served a -one-game ban for kicking Cleveland -superstar LeBron James in the groin in a Houston victory on Sunday.
But in the pivotal final minutes , the Rockets misfired all too often, shooting only three of 17 from the floor over the last 10 minutes.
The Hawks improved the NBA's best record to 48-12, two wins ahead of the Golden State Warriors, while Houston slipped to 41-19, third best in the Western Conference.
Jason Terry led Houston with 21 points while Terrence Jones added 18 points and eight rebounds in a losing cause.
Houston led 87-72 after Josh Smith and Pablo Prigioni opened the fourth quarter with three-pointers , but the Rockets managed only one field goal over the next seven minutes.
The Hawks took advantage for a 21-3 run, grabbing their first lead since midway into the opening quarter, and Horford broke a 96-96 deadlock with a baseline jumper then blocked a shot from Jones to help secure Atlanta's edge.
Dennis Schroeder, who scored 16 points off the Atlanta bench, joined -Millsap and Teague in hitting two free throws down the stretch to secure the comeback triumph.
Also on Tuesday , James bounced back from a sub-par NBA effort and Kyrie -Irving returned after a two-game absence as the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Boston Celtics 110-79.

Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinett said the increased vigilance was necessary to thwart terror and insecurity related attacks in the East Africa nation.
Boinnet who did not elaborate on the security measures said the move is in line with the realization that terror threats against Kenya remain "real."
"In the wake of the latest Paris attacks and realizing that the same terror threat remains real in our country. Whilst we in the police have stepped up vigilance , we call on the public to exercise maximum level of alertness," he said in a brief statement issued in Nairobi.
Boinnet said security forces will work closely with the public in security the country that has fallen victim of similar attacks previously.
The police chief also urged the public to report any suspicious activity and people to security agencies for action.
"Report any suspicious activity andor persons to the police or any security agency for action. Let's work together to protect our motherland. Our heartfelt condolences to the French people," Boinett added.
More than 150 people were killed in the Paris and Saint-Denis shootings and bombings, French officials said. Saint-Denis is home to the national stadium where the soccer match was being played.
Reports say the worst carnage occurred at Bataclan concert hall and took dozens hostage. France has declared a national state of emergency and closed its borders.
The coordinated assaults, which began after 9:15 p.m. local time , saw multiple explosions and shootings at six sites across the city at restaurants, soccer stadium and a concert hall.
The siege ended when security forces stormed the building. People were shot dead at bars and restaurants at five other sites in Paris. Eight attackers are reported to have been killed.

The eight-stage journey will trace the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts for the first seven stages until the end of the seventh stage in Izmir.
After transferring the teams from Izmir to Istanbul by air, the tour will witness its traditional finish in Istanbul on May 4, when the event will wrap up with a route including a pass over the Bosphorus Bridge.
