The Winnipeg Jets will bring their 2013-14 season to a close on Friday evening as they visit the Calgary Flames. Viewers in the Jets region can watch the game on TSN and listen to it on TSN 1290 starting at 7:30pm ct/8:30pm et. The Jets are hoping to conclude their schedule with a fourth victory in six games as they will miss the playoffs for a seventh straight season. The franchise has made the postseason only once since joining the NHL as the Atlanta Thrashers in 1999-2000 and this marked the clubs third season since relocating to Winnipeg. Tonight marks the back end of games on consecutive nights for the Jets, who bested the Boston Bruins 2-1 in a shootout on Thursday. Evander Kane had the game-tying goal with 1:57 to play and Bryan Little potted the lone goal of the tiebreaker. It was another solid effort by netminder Michael Hutchinson. He made 16 saves in a tough-luck 1-0 loss on Monday versus Minnesota in his NHL debut, then stopped 32 shots through overtime last night before going perfect in the shootout to win his first career game. "I felt determined and relaxed out there," said Hutchinson, a 2008 draft pick by Boston. "I just wanted to give the team a chance to win and fortunately we came out flying in the third period and we definitely took the play to them and we got rewarded with a goal." The Jets will now try to secure just their second ever victory in Calgary. They had gone 0-6-0 on the road versus the Flames dating back to their days in Atlanta before notching a 5-2 victory in Calgary on Jan. 16. That win also snapped Winnipegs four-game slide overall to the Flames. Calgary is coming off Wednesdays 4-3 shootout decision over the Los Angeles Kings, one that pushed its winning streak to four straight. The Flames are on their longest string of consecutive victories since claiming five straight from Jan. 22-Feb. 1. The Flames failed to hold a 3-0 lead versus the Kings but recovered in the shootout. Jiri Hudler answered Marian Gaboriks shootout tally for the Kings and Sean Monahan then supplied the winner in the fourth round. Karri Ramo posted 41 saves in the victory. "His progression has been unbelievable and right now hes making a name for himself as a number one (goaltender)," Calgary head coach Bob Hartley said of Ramo. Monahan also potted his 21st goal of the season, the most by a Flames rookie since Jarome Iginla had 21 in 1996-97. T.J. Galiardi had a goal and an assist, while Matt Stajan lit the lamp. Flames head coach Bob Hartley said Mike Cammalleri is a game-time decision for tonights contest. Calgary, which will end its regular season at Vancouver on Sunday, improved to 19-18-3 at home. Thats an impressive number given that the club endured a franchise-worst seven-game home losing streak at one point this season. . His head snapped back from the impact and hit the floor. The All-Star power forward was all right afterward, a relief for the Minnesota Timberwolves. . Just as the meeting was beginning, Major League Baseball unveiled Rule 7.13, an experimental rule for the 2014 season aimed at eliminating what the league calls “egregious” runner/catcher collisions at home plate. http://www.thecapitalshockeystore.com/C ... as-Jersey/. Coaches are now allowed to challenge both called and potential defensive pass interference fouls under certain conditions. . Fifth-seeded Cilic gained his fourth title in Zagreb and became the third Croat overall to win at least 10 career titles. Cilic also lifted his career record in Zagreb to 22-4, winning 20 of his last 21 matches at the event. . Both of Padakins goals came in the second period while Zane Jones added a single in the first period for Calgary (13-6-4). Hitmen goaltender Chris Driedger finished with 30 saves for the shutout.MELBOURNE, Australia -- Two of Canadas rising tennis stars are into the second round of the Australian Open as Eugenie Bouchard and Vasek Pospisil each scored opening-day victories. Montreals Bouchard survived a scare from a 431st-ranked challenger from China, scoring a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Chen Tang Hao. Vancouvers Pospisil, who is seeded 28th, eliminated Australian Sam Groth with a 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 win. Bouchard, the 30th seed, rode a roller-coaster in the one-hour opening set after earning a 3-1 lead, only to lose it a game later on a double-fault. Bouchard, recently named The Canadian Press female athlete of the year, was broken again to drop to 3-4 as Tang rifled back a return winner before holding for a 5-3 lead. Bouchard saved set points in the ensuing game on Tang errors before finally earning a 7-5 win on a break. The 19-year-old Bouchard was more in control in the second set and dominated to win the 6-1. "It was tough but I fought and got through it," Bouchard said. "I didnt play the way I really wanted, but it was good to win one like this. "It was really fun, I had some good support, it was good atmosphere," said Bouchard, who admitted struggling the 35-degree heat. "It was hotter than past few days, tough for both of us," she said. "Its strange training at one temperature (around 25 C on Sunday) and playing in something completely different. BBut no complaints, it was the same for both of us.dddddddddddd" She said she needed to be mindful of the hot sun. "Im big on sunscreen and hydration, especially the night before," said Bouchard. I did a good job of it and was fine. Id rather play tennis in the sun than do anything else anyway." Pospisil, 23, was never troubled by Groth and appears to have overcome a back problem which bothered him this month in India and Sydney. In the second round, Pospisil will face another Australian in Matthew Ebden, who beat Nicolas Mahut of France 6-3, 7-5, 4-6, 0-6, 6-3. Pospisil said that while he did not feel at 100 per cent, he played well. "I played surprising well, I was not expecting to play like this," he said. "I wasnt feeling that great and only played points the day before, I didnt have much preparation. "But I returned and served well, overall I did fine." "I didnt feel any fatigue, I was playing relaxed because of my back," he added. "I dont anticipate any problems in the next round but Im glad I didnt have to go five sets." Pospisil overcame 16 aces from his opponent, firing six of his own and breaking on four of 10 chances. He scored 31 winners and 17 unforced errors. The Canadian earned the break he needed in the seventh game of the opening set and in the final game of the match on the Groth double-fault. ' ' '
