I recently put a couple essays up on .

The first one is titled: and was received well over at the Facebook group. The second one is titled: and just went up earlier today.

I will generally post on the Facebook group each time I put something new up, but here only once in a while, probably, though there is an Atom feed you can subscribe to on the website if you want to find out sooner.

I'd never considered the specific act of 'travel' in Divers, beyond the planes.. except in the 'rushing, tearing, speeding home' section of Anecdotes- it seems important, and there's plenty to chew on- time to listen to Hejira. Maybe the different forms of travel allegorise the journey of life in some way?

Indeed. There are all sorts of locations on the album: both general ones like "garden" or "ocean" and specific ones like Covalo and NYC. Hejira was written on the road, so most of the songs are about the roads and the places in between, yet many of them use travel as way to view the journey of life: "Amelia" has the story of Icarus; "Song for Sharon" contrasts the singer's life with Sharon's, in terms of where they started out from and where they ended up; and so on.

It really is a great album in its own right though, I would definitely recommend it.

I like the idea of the allegory with the journey of life. Like the old riddle goes, what walks on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three legs in the evening? I think we can safely say that, in Divers, freefall/diving is associated with the evening.
