Around the verse about drinking rye, something about the sounds reminded me of something from the 60s but I couldn't quite put my finger on it until now. At first I thought it might be the Beatles but I haven't listened to them enough to point to a particular song/album.
But now I know, its totally Pet Sounds! And the production on Pet Sounds is likewise amazing. But more than the production values, it makes me think of it because the songs share a very optimistic palette. I think its mostly the jingle bells(?) or whatever she uses at that part "Recently, a bottle of rye..." that strike a similar tone to the bike bells and car honks used on Pet Sounds. The musical style is obviously very different though.

Posted: 03 Nov 2015, 02:30I don't have much productive to say about the song, but I have to say I love the "Recently..." moment. The combination of the playful intonation of her voice and the harpsichord running quickly underneath it. Reminds me of the "My mama may be..." part in Ribbon Bows.
