Lady Gaga

She's a platitudinous, attention seeking, moderately talented, money-making machine!

YEAH!

I have serious problems with her. :glare:

I don't think she's that bad, as far as animatronic cash cows go. When she's wheeled out by her corporate owners and they press the 'perform' button, what she performs is occasionally entertaining, which is more than can be said for most of them.

As an example of celebrity and the relationship between popular culture and consumerism, she's academically interesting, and maybe even artistically interesting because of that word sadie used: "platitudinous". She seems consciously platitudinous, almost, which is intriguing, in a barely-Warholian way.

That's very optimistic of you, haha. Sure she's awful, but at least she isn't Katy Perry!

That Yoü (ù? ú?) and I song has all my hate, though. Born This Way, too.

I haven't heard that first one, but I think Born This Way's pretty catchy. If I was in a pub or a night club, I'd rather have that come on than anything by most of those extremely popular artists whose names I don't know. Bad Romance, too. There's a lot going on in those songs, at least. There's something there to listen to. Most of that music is uneventful and generic to the point that it just passes straight under the radar of my attention. I don't notice it except as something loud that's preventing conversation, such that it might as well be a large jet engine running, or someone coughing loudly over the PA. I've heard it unbidden a million times before, even if the artist and the title of the song are different.

Of course, I'd never pay for it.

The thing about Gaga is that you'd never find the need to pay for it if you liked it. Nor would you need to illegally download it, for that matter.

I don't focus too much on Gaga being the cream of the Billboard crop, as I don't go out of my way to expose myself to any of it. Like, I wouldn't care if it was Gaga or Ke$ha that was preventing conversation. as I don't really go anywhere that accepts looks and nudges as sufficient forms of communication in the first place :P

I try to avoid it, too, but I don't know that there are any other places to socialise after dark. It's hard to find even a pub anymore where there's no dreadful music drowning everything out.

lady gaga is the hugest musical discussion point of those last year, in my hand i just don't care, i've no tv and never listen to radio so i've to admit i don't know what she's doing, i certainly heard some into h&m shop and cie but...i'm just pissed off with the "new bjork" comparison...

I honestly hear a lot more going on on Britney's music than on Lady Gaga's. What I enjoy the most of Lady Gaga songs are its melodies. BTW album sounds really outdated and not-exciting at all, production wise. Same with The Fame. (The Fame Monster could be the exception - the production of Bad Romance or Alejandro sounds by far a lot more interesting).

I attended the Monster Ball Tour back in 2010 and it was interesting, although the lack of good songs on the tracklist bored me a little.
