I love Perfume Genius. My favourite song is perhaps Write to Your Brother. I read in an interview that he thought Does Not Suffice was "kind of perfect."

I must say I've seen worse things on Youtube... It's really hard not to see it as at least somewhat homophobic.

I saw that a couple of days ago, he posted it on his Facebook page. I'm slightly disgusted that the ad was not allowed to be shown, when on every VEVO music video on Youtube it is totally acceptable to promote Nicki Minaj's music, which is horribly offensive.

Yeah it's totally not in Google's business interests to have it as a video advert. They're probably not even necessarily homophobic, especially considering that they made an It Gets Better video (not that that means anything either or is even that useful).

Can't say that they wouldn't fine Lana Del Rey 'family safe' though, which is a really apt comparison. I mean, it's the same image. I wouldn't be surprised if the Perfume Genius video was some kind of parody of it, already predicting Google's reaction. Do you know if was a Youtube advert in the end? I know it was a featured video.

Mmm exactly. Especially the 'white, middle-class' thing. In almost every video I've seen, 'going to college' seems to be some kind of prerequisite for anything 'getting better'. It's pretty deceptive. It's probably harder for plenty of people to be gay in an adult world of relationships and employment than it is to be gay under the shelter of childhood. It only gets better if you actively try and make everything better; even if you were completely passive and life somehow managed to work itself out around you, you'd still probably be restricted by internalised homophobia.

I know the whole purpose is to stop gay kids from killing themselved though so it probably doesn't matter all that much if it's only a short-term mentality.

The beginning of Hood sounds Newsom-esque. We already know she's a big influence on his music. I love the video.
