I'm a pretty big fan of Leonard Cohen, who's with me? His songs have been covered by several other artists but around my way no-one seems to have heard of him. He's probably not one for the 'great voices' thread, but I find his singing unique and his stage presence quite funny at times. I also respect him greatly for his going on a two-year world tour which commenced when he was seventy-three!

love him. his first album is by far my favourite, for obvious reasons (it's amazingness)
it's also nice to have someone who inspires me so much to be a fellow canadian. it feels a little more natural for some reason

and i know what you mean about the covers, i'm always like "you don't know leonard cohen? seriously?" "no" "okay, well. hallelujah? he wrote that" "OH I KNOW THAT SONG"
also my dad started singing along to "so long marianne" one day. that caught me off guard.

That's one of my favourites too, Rainbowdash -- it probably has the shortest lyrics of any Cohen song, which makes it a bit easier to listen to!

Ever since Hallelujah was covered by an X-Factor winner a few Christmases ago, almost everyone in the UK has been familiar with the song, though they normally associate it more with Shrek than Leonard Cohen.
One of my mum's friends said to me that she went through a 'Leonard Cohen phase' when she was a teenager, which made me realise just how long he has been around for, and how varied his fanbase is.

Yeah, I'm also more of a casual listener but he is pretty good. Saw him live at Glastonbury a few years ago and he really blew me away.

Cool! I wish I could see him live, but I don't know if he'll still be touring by the time I'm old enough to get myself to a gig.
