Howdy, Milky Moon. This is Calamus Root Magician. Around Yuletide, I posted a link to a Joanna Newsom remix project, The Murthering Stake, on this site and was bowled over by the positive response.

This is just a courtesy note (hopefully posted in the correct topical zone) to let you all know that the second installment of the Dread Contenders series is finished and up for free download here:



Another Sonic Life is a re-imagining of the work of Sonic Youth. It is similar is size and scope to the previous project, but with obvious sonic differences.

If anyone loves Sonic Youth and hip hop (ish), have a listen. Hope you enjoy.

wow interesting stuff, sorta hard to slap the punk/prog/fusion/garage tuning/alt outa these guys...i see the (ish) there
sonic youth were a seminal band, the places they went had never even been touched before, liked pretty good to me and the future.
will u be doing minute men and the cramps ?

Thanks for the listen. Your choices of songs are interesting. "pretty good to me" is the most stripped-down one, I think: basically just a re-chop of the original with some drums from other songs. I thought about adding some bass or something, but I figured it was a decent re-representation of the sound of the "eric's trip" demo, which is so disarming in its warmth, intimacy.

As the constrution-guy, my favorite is "out alive," which was one of the more involved chop-jobs. It also uses the most single songs (in the last mintute or so--something like seven songs).

Again, I really appreciate a knowledgeable ear on the project. As for a minute men or cramps remix: no--but I did consider a fugazi remix, which I'm glad I avoided (even though it would be fun) because of this wugazi project that's been floating around. I won't step on those feet.
