When I was 6 I got my first cassette record:
And when I was 15 I became a Björk fan:
I grew up
But I still enjoy Britney's album, although not as much as her newest ones.

I think that Ace of Base album was the first CD I actually bought myself...unless it was The Cranberries. I can't say either really affected me deeply, as I was prob 9 or 10, but I guess those were the first albums I felt were truly *mine* and not just me stealing my parents' music. Cuz if you go that way, I was way into Madonna's Immaculate Collection when I was 7-8.

My first casette (besides, of course, Raffi) was Flood by TMBG.
In fourth grade, I got Get Behind Me Satan by the White Stripes on CD and thought I was the coolest kid ever.

White Stripes were one of the first bands I listened to that I still rate today.
Elephant is a great rock album.

I was the same way! I was actually the coolest 4th grader around. I used to work at a daycare center, and they played TMBG constantly. It brought me back to the good ole days when being a nerd was not frowned upon (elementary school).

If I was my fourth-grade self in this time, I would deffo be considered a shameless hipster.
I think I was the only one not listening to whatever pop music was around at the time.
Then, of course, as I got older my pseudo-musical-snob-ness greatly decreased.
I still don't listen to Britney Spears though.

I was ten year old, and I took a picture I cliped out of a Nylon magazine and got my hair cut like a hip lesbian. I was a shameless hipster until I finally learned that societal norms are a waste and social status means nothing. I was 11 years old listening to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and TV on the Radio. Now, I am like \'Oh, hey. Hole is a good band\' and \'Voltaire. He\'s like a god\', and \'Korpiklaani? Awesome!\' and \'ABBA is the greatest thing ever\'. I am a nerd. As far as it gets. I have \'Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra\' on a sampler on my wall. I rejected my hipsterdom when I realised that I really do not care about perception.

I had the shortest hair in third grade because I donated almost all of it, I looked like such a dweeb. Especially since I wore a lot of guy's clothes (the majority of my cousins are male, and at least their hand-me-downs were less dated and significantly less glitter-y)
I bought a ton of Marian McPartland CD's though, and felt so ostracized because somehow all my friends had no idea who she was and when I said in Girl Scouts in fourth grade that I liked jazz they were all like "Ew, why?" (Which I seriously don't get, aren't Manhattan-area people supposed to be all cosmopolitan?)
ANYWAY I couldn't live with myself if I took up that whole hipster lifestyle. I'd just be one huge contradiction.

I have had people ask me to teach them to be hip. I told them that i am the antithesis of hip. I looked like a super butch lesbian until I turned 14.

I think that super butch lesbians can be pretty damn hip! I guess it depends on what is considered 'hip...' Is it just like 'cool?' Nobody really says it around here...

Scandinavian music is boss. ABBA, HIM, Aha, Bjork, TMOE, it all kicks ass. Except Danish music. Everything from denmark is terrible.

Also, this album:
Probably one of my best investments, seeing how much use I've gotten out of it.
