Golden Shoulders, Nervous Cop, The Pleased, Smog, and more

So, the Joanna Newsom song tournament has a lot of groups Joanna has collaborated with involved in it, and it got me wondering.
The groups listed are:

Golden Shoulders
Kevin Barker
Moore Brothers
Nervous Cop
The Pleased
RF & Lili De La Mora
Smog
Vetiver
Vashti Bunyan

I was wondering if anyone knows about or loves any of these bands? The only I've ever listened to on this list is Vashti Bunyan, who I love (and I mean fucking LOVE. She is so good for when you are sick, or sad, or sleepy, or hungover, or studying, or really doing anything that requires and desires calm). I've also heard a Bill Callahan record ('Sometimes I Wish I Were An Eagle') and I am like 85% percent sure it's the same guy.

Anyone think another one of these bands is worth a try?

People here (and everywhere) love Smog but I've never really gotten into him.

You are correct. Smog = Bill Callahan. I love him! He is my second favorite artist after Joanna. She plays piano on his song "Rock Bottom Riser" which I highly recommend listening to. It's off of his best album (in my opinion): A River Ain't Too Much to Love. You can see the video for it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htov0dv09R4

I've heard a couple of Golden Shoulders songs as well and enjoyed them. "The Honey, The Power, The Light" is definitely worth checking out because Joanna sings on it.

I love Smog too, thanks to Joanna who let me to them/him. Love his voice. :hump:

I love RF & Lili De La Mora. Lili is actually my friend on facebook AND ONE TIME SHE TOTALLY COMMENTED ON MY STATUS. Needless to say, I geeked out.

So DW, I am having some trouble finding RF and Lili De La Mora on the internet. (No go on torrent sites, filestube, etc). I'm not going to explicitly ask for it, but as this is a small forum I'm gonna suggest it implicitly...

It sure would be nice if there were an upload or torrent of one of their albums somewhere!!

Nervous Cop is an interesting listen ... though perhaps only the one listen. I bought the album, but have only listened once, but I recall it as being rather atonal and unexpectedly noisy, in the same mould as The Boredoms, perhaps.

There's a couple of Golden Shoulders songs that I like, the RF & Lili De La Mora is a nice relaxing listen. The one I have not managed to track down in The Pleased's first album "One Piece From The Middle". I believe it was a very limited / local release, but I would be interested to hear about it from anyone who has it or has heard it. And is "I'm Already Gone" the same as "Already Gone" from their later, more widely available, release.

So, I have since been able to tracked down the RF & Lili De La Mora album "Eleven Continents", and let me just say that it is absolutely wonderful. Same with Smog's "A River Ain't Too Much To Love".

I'm interested in Nervous Cop, cuz I heard that Greg Saunier is in it. He does a noise-pop band called Deerhoof that I really love, and I'd like to see what he and Joanna do together.

Any advice on some great Golden Shoulders songs? I've only heard 'the honey, the power, the light' but I really like it!
