If you catch me on Skype when I'm drunk I'll sing! Otherwise I play the recording back to myself and think, "No one is ever going to hear this."

Great video! Personally, I've never attempted to cover a Joanna Newsom song. I've always thought it wouldn't sound very good with a man's voice -- her songs are too linked in my mind with her 'yelping' style. (Probably not the best word, but you know what I mean.) I've covered some other things though, here's my latest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4cHcd9VLIQ

Actually this cover of The End is Near is pretty good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlC0nQ2wEp8 (not mine)

I've always thought that 'yelping' is exactly the right word.

Hmm, I can see what you mean. I just listened to the M Ward song, and doing it in a different style does really make the song work better.
Thanks :-) It took me ages to work out that riff, haha. I live near to Tamworth.

I love your cover Adam! Very emotional singing, can't seem to get that down myself.

Thanks :)
I've just uploaded a cover of '81 . Personally I don't think I've added a lot to the song, but tell me what you all think. :)

This version just came up in the related videos, I love it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbpCO0dD5Nk&NR=1

I am writing an album(!). A big undertaking for me. It is called Skin. A sort of Spook-folk (is that even a thing?). Songs about bones and things to do to skin and hair and stuff. Sparse and visual. Except I have no one to record it! Boo hoo! I also need a bass pedal. But yeah, y'all will be first to hear it.

At least once over the years since I first joined the forum I've mentioned the possibility of doing a musical collaboration. I don't recall anyone jumping on that bandwagon. Ursula, I feel inclined to make that suggestion again, with one or more of your songs as a foundation. If you have the ability to record multiple tracks, you could record an initial instrumental track to provide the rhythmic foundation, and then additional instrumental and vocal tracks within your own capabilities. From there, you could send what you've done to someone else so that they can record additional tracks of their own. This could happen again and again until sufficient tracks are recorded for someone to edit and mix them into something sublimely listenable. Everyone involved should understand that none of the tracks need be perfect as a standalone. I have access to several multi-track recordings of hit songs done over the years, most are far from perfect when the tracks are heard separately. The mix is where the magic takes place. From what I've seen here, there are a number of competent singers and musicians who can add their talents to your songs. At least give it more than just a passing thought. :)

I think this is a good idea; I'm just worried about finding someone who would be willing to organise it all. I'd do what I could but I wouldn't have the first clue on where to start with the compiling side of it. Would this mainly be songs we write ourself, JN songs, or Christmas/pop songs?
