longtime favorite of ours- fell in love with her in 1990 listening to Parallel Dreams

In a stirring and inspirational return to her roots, Loreena McKennitt has created a new album of traditional Celtic songs, recorded this summer in the historic 1832 Sharon Temple north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

"Every once and again there is a pull to return to one's own roots or beginnings, with the perspective of time and experience, to feel the familiar things you once loved and love still," says Loreena.

Consisting of nine songs, it was recorded with some of Loreena’s long-time musical companions along with a cast of other accomplished musicians.

1 - As I Roved Out
2 - On a Bright May Morning
3 - Brian Boru’s March
4 - Down By the Sally Gardens
5 - The Star of the County Down
6 - The Wind that Shakes the Barley
7 - The Death of Queen Jane
8 - The Emigration Tunes
9 - The Parting Glass

The album, which is offered as a CD, a download and on vinyl, will begin its release this fall- Nov 12 and Nov 16

I'm glad Loreena started releasing albums at regular intervals. There was a ten year gap between An Ancient Muse and her live album.

And I'm even happier there's a thread about her now! I remember as a child, not two seconds after we'd get into the car would I be shouting for Loreena. When I was five or so, I was so enthralled with "The Visit". Mum even says that's probably why I had such a strong interest for playing the harp.

Edit- Oh wow! She finally released a finished version of "The Emigration Tunes"! It must've been like 20 or so years. And Joanna totally makes reference to Star of the County Down in the song "Autumn".

Thanks for reminding me of Loreena. I haven't listened to her in months, so now I've put on her Live in Paris and Toronto cd. Lovely! <3

Seen Loreena a few times, once in a book store with 30 or so people and my wife gave her a hat she designed for her- good times!

I just wish she weren't so blinded by the Canadian Government's narrow-sighted perspective on copyright and fair use, but she is a member of some historic music preservation society...
