I'm sure many of you won't be disapointed. "The Nameless" is her third album, and allthough none of the previous ones really lacked interest, they were never as impressing as this one! I'm just overdosing on it for a whole week and it gets better and better after each listening. Her voice sounds a bit childlike, but in a different way from Joanna or Kate Bush for instance, Stina Nordenstam springs to mind but Cathy Davey sounds more positive and joyful. For the music, she works with different styles, but there's something very poppy in the way it was used in the 60's, and you can definitely hear influences from the 80's as well. The arrangements are just lovely and the production is perfectly balanced. And allthough here and then you can hear influences in her work, the whole thing sounds very original and personal. I discovered her as she was doing The Divine Comedy's opening for his show in Paris last monday. I instantly felt captured by her voice and her energy (allthough she seems a bit shy). Since then, I read somewhere that she was Neil Hannon's girlfriend and it's another good point to me as Neil wouldn't bother with mediocrity...
First let's have a try with the first single from this excellent album, you just won't be indifferent to this instant tune. It is pure pop (you can even hear some bits sounding like what Madonna could achieve if she was not so.... well, you know what I mean!) and I must say it's been a long time since I've felt so instantly trapped by a real good pop song! And the video for "Little Red" is a killer! I'm sure you(ll be trapped too:
