anyone here dig anything else with harp, or just joanna?
there's a local musician here in toronto that i like named "carnival moon"... no where near as exotic as joanna, pretty cutesy actually, but i like her anyway.. too bad she only has a few songs posted:

http://www.myspace.com/carnivalmoon

i listen to a lot of pussy music lately (fairy music according to my friends) like joanna and rio en medio, stuff like that. soooooo lookin for some more. never have too many fairies. well, i guess it's possible...

Not a harpist, but if you're open to a gem take a moment to check out classically trained guitarist Tom James Scott.

He is a minimalist and classicist at heart. His guitar picking is in moments incredibly harp-like but his strength is in his beautifully fluttering compositions.

Hate to go all 'check out this myspace page', but seriously, check out his myspace page for a listen: http://www.myspace.com/tomjamesscott.

Andreas Vollenweider -

The video quality is poor, and it's hard to tell it's a harp, but he plays an electronically amplified harp and plays a ton of other instruments - kind of a world music-meets-jazz musician.

Yea, the video looks interesting enough that I'd love to see it in HD. I decided to check out others of his videos...and I really like .

He has a TON of albums - my dad is really into him, so I've been around this music since I was a kid. I wonder if it has anything to do with my current obsession with the harp...

I grew up with a few of his albums as well... But I think I know what may have sparked my harp lust and it's very embarassing. All I'm going to say is that it's NOT not the Legend of Zelda.

(although me being obsessed with Loreena McKennitt when I was 5-6 may have something to do with it too)

I had NO CLUE Andreas was playing a harp until AFTER I'd already gotten into Joanna (late 2005/early 2006) - I facepalmed when I realized it.

Polli - when I mentioned Salzedo in another post and talked about being able to identify students of that method on sight, one tell-tale sign is visible in the Twosome - watch how their left hands raise up after playing (it's easier to see it because there are two of them, and therefore looks freaky when they do it together).

Ugh, I'm glad Joanna doesn't play like that; it's so schmaltzy. :ugh:

It's for a good reason, though! I won't take up space to explain it unless you ask me too :)

I would love to hear your explanation, if you don't mind, Scott! I know absolutely nothing about harp technique and would really like to learn a bit.
