Very nice thread! :)

Here's the very first song that really made a very big impression on me, the kind of song which makes you realise something happened with music. I was about 14:

Now, that's what I call a single! Commercially, it really bombed all over the world, but the thing is "Dancing Queen" for is one of the best pop singles ever! Okay, the lyrics are just crap, but musically, there's really nothing like it. Pure pop perfection really!

Lyrics are not the most important thing when we are talking about pop music. I'm not an Abba fan, but damn, 'Dancing Queen' has one of the best melodies I have ever heard. Such a great tune!

I've always liked ABBA. Dancing Queen is one of those songs that, from the beginning, has generated the same kind of warm internal glow that I feel whenever I listen to Joanna. Definitely one of my all-time favorites. Now, it always brings to mind . Love Toni Colette! X}

"song of the wind" by santana extract from caravanserail, if i had to chose between this album and my whole bjork collection i will keep this album. can't explain the energy i bring out of this tune since i'm...born, my dad is a huge santana fan, and i grow up whith him, and especially this album.
"the body melts into the universe.
the universe melts into the soundless voice.
the sound melts into the all-shining light.
and the light enters the bosom of infinite joy"
inlay of caravanserail :)

haha i knew that my carlos love will please the "vieille garde" of tadpoles, i agree with 90per cent of your list except Hendrix :confused: i never undestand the buzz around him, he's got a lot of technic but no soul, i asked lot of people about hendrix and near the whole think the same...i just "discovered" muddy waters few days ago, have a look at allman, didn't know him yet

ah milki take it from me, the "buzz" of hendrix is real, real music and real artistic talent, if Crosstown Traffic and Purple Haze don't sink in then try this one:

a certain harpist even thought it wonderful enough to cover, and to my knowledge Joanna has only covered 2 songs in her career...Little Wing was one :)

u can throw out the facts that he was prolly manic depressive and played a right hand Fender strung uʍop ǝpısdn-left handed and that a whole generation of counter culture folks(hippies) worshiped him/and his music if u want(musicians too) but give a listen some time to his version of the all American song Star Spangled Banner if u want to feel the heartbeat of my generation of hippies :)

dwain-scuse me while i kiss the sky :rock:

When I was younger I used to listen some pop italian music and disco dance, the usual summer compilation that friends copied on tapes for you, or something registred directly from the radio. So nothing really special. But, anyway, since my brother listened a lot of George Michael and Wham and my cousin Madonna, I would say that they reminds me a lot my childhood, as well some piano pieces that I learned during my piano lessons and all the funny japanese cartoon songs on tv. But my first cd was the first of Garbage.

Joanna's was the first music I loved! I dunno, every era of my life definable by a song is definable by one of her songs. Maybe the last month or so have been more Red Rubber Ball, written by Paul Simon. But more the Streetlight Manifesto version. "And I think it's gonna be all right. Yeah, the worst is over now. The morning sun is shining like a red rubber ball."
