So back in 2006 I threw together a list of the major artists I had seen live for a blog. Add in local bands, opening bands, festival bands, indie bands and other artists seen in last 4 years, this list is closer to 30% of all live music I have seen. Couple dupes in this list, didnt feel like redoing it once I lost the text file
lol I would have added seen -Lennon/Hendrix/Marley/Zappa - were they to live longer ;) Regret never having seen Nirvana Talking Heads broke up and stopped playing before I became a regular concert-goer. They are on my see before I die list. If Kate Bush were ever to return to performing live(ain't gonna happen) I am there, whereever that may be.
The one person, if I could bring anyone back from the dead to see perform would be Bob Marley.
and the above has some particularly fine moments:
- Jerry Garcia in a garage with 300 people - Eric Clapton play before 1,000 people filmed for a special - Phish with 150 people at one of there first Bay Area shows - Neil Young & Crazy Horse at a local bar via candlelight with 100+ people - Neil Young playing a secret show at a small club as "Hippie Dream" - filmed for a movie - A few other secret Neil warming up for a tour local shows with Booker T, etc - Tom Petty play a small private after show party - Pearl Jam play a secret show as "The Honking Seals" at a 500 person club - my first concert in was The Beach Boys - second concert when I was 11 years old was KISS - I worked for BGP- Bill Graham Presents(biggest rock promoter in the world form 1965-2000) for a few years in early 90s and helped restore and re-open the SF Fillmore after the big earthquake- and saw ALOT of shows there from '93-'95
You can come see them for free with me this saturday in san francisco at the world's greatest free music event
thanks man , but it wouldn't be the same without Papa John Creech on violin
i got to see Charlie Daniels Band in Knoxville once, first time he played there, it snowed really bad and no one knew who he was...11 people showed up. brought us all up on stage in chairs, passed out beers and played and shot the shit with us, little close up shows are the best really
dwain
The thing i like best about deciphering Joanna's songs...i'm always wrong.

jeez, I could go on forever. And I really like a lot of singer-songwriters too. I'm not sure if I'd go for one over the other, other than I AM a singer-songwriter. I think there's sort of a stigma that goes along with that--like that you're self-absorbed or dramatic or self-indulgent or whiny, or basically anything Bright Eyes/Conor Oberst is accused of being.
The Decemberists Rasputina Ted Leo The New Pornographers/AC Newman/etc. Wilco (older stuff) Radiohead Son Volt/Jay Farrar/etc. Whiskeytown/older Ryan Adams (yes I like alt-country!) Silver Jews Belle & Sebastian LCD Soundsystem Neutral Milk Hotel Apples In Stereo Beulah Smog/Bill Callahan The Mountain Goats Eagles of Death Metal/Queens Of The Stone Age Enon Jenny Lewis Dismemberment Plan Jump, Little Children Final Fantasy Magnolia Electric Co./Songs: Ohia/etc. M Ward Modest Mouse Neko Case Pavement/Stephen Malkmus/etc. Spoon The Walkmen
CocoRosie WHY? Bat for Lashes Jedi Mind Tricks My Brightest Diamond t.A.T.u. Future Islands Yeasayer Cocteau Twins Dent May & His Magnificent Ukelele (although I don't really like ukeleles and believe the "magnificent" should be bestowed upon Dent himself)
And he used to make me pray, wearing a mask like a death's head. When he put me there in the back seat, and he said, "Jesus save me, Jesus save me."
Oh,m and let me add - Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids Switchblade Symphony Miranda Sex Garden Jack Off Jill Alec K Redfearn and the Eyesores/Seizures
Of course, I have one aim, the grotesque. If I am not grotesque I am nothing.
There are sooooo many great bands...just a few I really like: Sonic Youth Arcade Fire Phantom Planet Très.B Lampshade Tu Fawning Wye Oak Wolf Parade Menomena
