absolutely right! but it's just my opinion too
i've to admit this gender bianca thing makes me not at very at ease...don't understand why she want to annihiled her feminity if it's not to be a man (which is not a pb)

It shakes me up a little too, but I guess it feels more genuine to me than Lady Gaga obsessing about the gay community and pulling bisexual stunts for shock value, but then again, who knows? I feel like both are somehow in the same vein, at least in terms of meaning, since obviously the music and audiences are quite different. I just feel that CocoRosie has been more successful in actually defying all sorts of social norms, even in their music - because it's certainly not pop.

I just saw them a few days ago (on my birthday! :hyper: ) and I was quite impressed. Wish I hadn't been so tired/stressed out, or I would've enjoyed it more. I think we waited a good 45 minutes for them to take the stage after the opener, so I was feeling very bitchy and irritated, so they had to be really good to win me over again. :tsk:
But they did!

Yeah, it always seems like a long wait for most shows, but this just seemed worse than usual. Especially because the house music went through TWO cycles before they came on. I mean, the first time Sinead O'Conner's "Nothing Compares 2 U" came on, it was like "cool, I can dig this," but then the second time, I was just ready to start punching babies. Maybe I was just in a bad mood, but it seemed like everyone around me was getting irritable too. At least make a longer playlist. :tsk:

I always wonder what the hell musicians DO that whole time... just hang out in their bus and do whatever? Obviously they've been there if they did a sound check, so are they just getting drunk or what? Of course, I've been in music school for 7 years so I expect things to start on time. If ever I became famous like JNew (which I won't), I would always start on time.

Unless there's a good reason they're late, of course :P

I discovered Joanna Newsom late, and now I’ve discovered CocoRosie late too!

I heard some tracks from Grey Oceans on the radio (Late Junction on BBC Radio 3 here in the UK), and it sounded very interesting. I went to my local record shop (very old-fashioned of me, I know) wanting to buy it. They didn’t have it, but they did have The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn, for just £3, so I bought it.

At first it sounded awful – the first track sounded like hip-hop, a genre which is definitely not to my taste – but over the successive days I became addicted to it, and now I absolutely adore it, especially ‘Werewolf’ and ‘Animals’. Now I’m going to make sure I buy Grey Oceans as soon as possible.

I cannot explain what it is that I love about CocoRosie, although I do like very wordy songs (à la Joanna Newsom). But I just love this album, and suddenly CocoRosie have become one of my favourite bands/musicians.

I tried...again...to see if there was anything I like about their music. Listened to the first 2 in the list above. It's still not happening for me. Maybe I'll try again in a few days, or weeks, or months, or years, or lifetimes.

hmm, i put them in order of release, so the first ones are their old stuff, try the ones near the end, maybe they'll appeal to you more
but seriously, i've never met anyone that didn't like the album version of "by your side" that's nuts haha that's how i usually get people into them. they go from not liking to, "ugh, this one song is really good though" hahaha

I think Lemonade is a brilliant song. I quite like K-Hole, Noah's Ark and By Your Side, but not hugely bothered. I just find their entire sound really contrived and self-consciously quirky. Things like using a toy cat to make a beat; it's not the point that you use crazy base materials, the aim is to sound good. Plus the lyrics are often stream of consciousness drivel.

I loved Grey Oceans.
I mean, it's been a year since I first heard it and it still changes every time I listen.
It's so textural and has so much more atmosphere and landscape than Ghosthorse and Stillborn did.
It's really best to listen to, as Sierra suggested, while in motion- biking, or sometimes I listen on the bus.
I also really liked their use of things that were closer to nature mixed in with the electronics, instead of having every single techno song they were writing on it.

really? you crazy braw... seriously, its the one song that's always gots people hooked. i make mixes whenever i'm dating new girls, and for some bands i have a lot of trouble choosing a song to put on, because their stuff is so different, or they have a vast discography... john frusciante, dirty projectors, bob dylan, captain beefheart... BUT, that album version is always the first coco rosie song i put on a mix. i always get specific comments on that song, and until this thread i had never heard of anyone not loving it lol

anyway, i'm with you on your 100% coco rosie love you mentioned earlier, i fucking love those cats.

I think R.I.P. Burn Face is a great song, especially live. Have a listen:
