Joanna Newsom calls triple j exclusively to talk about her new album...

Back in 2004, a young harpist from California caused a lot of indie kids to sit up and take notice when she released her debut album The Milk-Eyed Mender. Her voice was one that divided punters, and her skills on the harp set her apart from the other nu-folk artists that were really hitting their stride at the time.
Her name was Joanna Newsom, and in the six years that have passed since that attention-getting debut her popularity has grown, and shifted, and the singer has continued to change the way she makes music along the way.
Her second album Y's was just five songs, but at almost an hour long, showed us that Joanna was getting more and more into sprawling, long form songwriting.
And today, Joanna Newsom releases her third album Have One On Me. It's been a while in the making, it's spread over three cd's, and a lot of curiosity has surrounded the release of this album as to where this young and very talented songwriter will head to next.
The record itself has been fiercely protected by her American record label, and when I had the chance to speak with Joanna Newsom about her new album, it was only after I'd heard four of the eighteen songs on the album, a couple of times through.
