I basically wanted to tell you guys about a music blog I just started, called White Noise. It's album/ live reviews and I've never done a blog or anything before, I was wondering if you guys might have a look and comment or just tell me what you think, any constructive criticism or whatever. I put up a few reviews of albums I just wrote over the last couple of days to give it some shape, but I should be updating it regularly, not necessarily with latest releases but just reviews of whatever I come across. So it'd mean a lot to me if you could have a look round.
Enjoyed it- but if I may be honest- a few times I hit the TLDR wall
I have been reading and aggregating blogs since before they were called blogs- and my only piece of advice is that *sometimes* less is more and in particular in today's world of updates, tweets, tumblrs - people want to digest information quicker in smaller chunks.
Now, don't get me wrong- I don't think you should change a thing, and I applaud you for your writing skill and detail in reviews - I am merely suggesting if you want to maximize your readership and keep more people coming back to read, you may want to also have a quick summary of each review
Then again many bloggers take the path that the blog is all about them, their opinions, their creative outlet and don't care if they have 1, 100 or 1,000 readers - they just need to put it out there as part of the process
I guess the thing is to prepare 10 or so reviews to put up when I was starting I chose some of my favourite albums and thus those that I have a lot to say about. I reckon it's definitely a good idea to have more reviews with less words than the other way round.
At the same time I'm not aiming to become a big voice in music journalism or anything, this is more a portfolio to show people after I leave uni as I'm thinking that a job in the music industry might be right up my alley. So I guess I'll find a happy medium between the detail I want and readability. Thanks again
Well, the whole thing deleted itself and I just spent 2 hours making it all again. But anyway it's back up and there are 3 new reviews, a little shorter (not much though, unfortunately). Anyway I'll stop bumping this thread with my own information now. Just had to vent somewhere about having to remake the whole shabang.
Although I don't listen to much music like Joanna these days. Mostly on my ipod its electro cross-genres with some J-New spattered across the board. That made little to no sense.
I have come to plug my own blog, , where I do (hopefully) humorous scene-by-scene recaps of bad movies. I just put up a recap of The Holiday in honor of the holiday season.
It's too late to be grateful It's too late to be late again It's too late to be hateful
claire, I didn't read a lot--kind of in a rush right now--but I did scan through several pages. Looks like something I might find interesting. I'll go back later for a longer look.
Thought I might give my latest blog entry a shout out. I went to Iceland last year and have just managed to put together all the photos I took of the wonderful graffiti in Central Reykjavik, such as this:
I LOVE Reykjavik and the graffiti there is amazing. It makes the place. It's so unusual, such a strange cooky little place. I would love to live there, I'd freeze half to death but it would be worth it.
I loved your blog, took me right back! Loved the poem on the wall too, how beautiful. Thanks for sharing
And every little gust that chances through Will dance in the dust of me and you
I think it was 2 years ago now. Was -10 and the wind chill!
I remember sitting in that cafe and thinking you could be there all day just looking at all of the strange things in there. I liked your photo of the foil up on the wall. Used to like the way it shivered in the wind. Perfect.
It's a strange place, the cathedral is so odd. And the houses all metal.its just odd!
And every little gust that chances through Will dance in the dust of me and you
It's such a wonderful place. I spent five days there. When I left England on the Monday, it was pouring with rain. In fact, it was the worst morning we'd had weather-wise for quite a while. When I landed in Iceland, it was certainly a touch colder, but there wasn't a cloud in the sky, and there wasn't a hint of rain until the following Friday. By all accounts, Iceland's weather is more changeable than ours, so I was very lucky.
Like you, I walked through Central Reykjavik every day, and even though I walked past certain parts of each of those days, I didn't see the 3D glasses-wearing giraffe until the very last.
I've got a new blog entry on the word "Apocryphal." I don't explore its origins or anything - it's more of a fun analysis of the word than an in depth one. Check it out and remember to leave a message if you've got time.
