Well, those are constructive questions. Well done.

1) Both. I had received a complaint about Scherado, but most of all, his constant attacking of Wanbli had gotten ridiculously out of hand. He was banned after he posted a thread dedicated specifically to the purpose of antagonising Wanbli in every subforum, by hand, since he doesn't have magical powers, thank Lina. Basically, if there are enough complaints about someone, they'll be banned. Equally, if someone is the proverbial large, rabid bull to our delicate china shop, they'll be banned. Two of the rules I'm operating with at the moment, in lieu of a ratified constitution, are that personal attacks are disallowed and off-topic posts are disallowed. Both types of post should be reported by people who see them so that I can warn the poster and delete them, if they do indeed appear to be personal or off-topic. Scherado had racked up numerous such warnings, quite a few of his posts having been reported and brought to my attention. Evidently he wasn't being a constructive poster, so he had to be banned. I hope that clarifies the whole process. If you think it would be constructive, I can make all correspondence on the matter public with the permission of those involved, other than the one who was banned.

2. & 3. A foe list only stops the intended recipient from seeing the insult; to everyone else it's clear as day. Hopefully we just don't like to see people insulting people on the forum, full stop, regardless of whether or not it reaches its target. That, and it clutters up threads. The creation of a thread devoted to the purpose of insulting the foe-ing party is out of the question, on the one hand because it's childish and ridiculous and unnecessary, and on the other hand because the intended recipient of the insults can still see the thread, even if they can't see the posts. It's also possible that the insult can be quoted and the target could see it that way. Foe-ing isn't foolproof. There are plenty of good reasons to ban insulting people, the chief one being, I think, that they're not the sort of people we want on the forum. But we'll see if that's the case shortly.

4. You're not painting a very happy picture of the forum, Polli - it sounds less like a forum and more like five or six forums of people who are actually able to see eachother's posts. Basically, you'd end up with a mess of some people being able to see everyone's posts and some people not being able to see some people's posts and other people only being able to see other people's posts and you'd quickly end up with something resembling a farce.
"Well, when did you say that? I've not heard anyone say that."
"I didn't, but if you look a few posts back, x said--"
"Oh, I can't see x's posts."
"Well, x said that."
"Oh, I was wondering what y meant when she said that x was wrong."
"What, what did y say? She's on my foes list."
etc. etc. etc. Very tiresome, very confusing. Better just to keep the place civil by kicking out people who threaten its civility, eh?

5. They would indeed, Polli; but if you really thought something was very useful you could PM it to me and I could make it a global announcement, or give it a thread in the appropriate überforum above. You'd really need to ask Lina about the intended use of the foe list - I don't think it's a very helpful tool, personally. Moderation of disputes should make it redundant, in an ideal world, and it really begins to cloud things up when you don't know who can speak to who.

Well answered. I'll tear up the petition for impeachment. :D

Just 2 quick things:

1) Thank you Alex. Moderating is not easy.

2) Alex has not mentioned the incredibly foul mouthed, insulting, vicious private message he sent to Alex, me, Ann(?) and Lina PRIOR to be banned after Alex had taken down said messages targeting me for whatever reason. I guess not replying/engaging or returning the attention that person was expecting.
He had an obvious agenda since his return and it appears he succeeded

I hadn't even noticed that he'd sent that to anyone but me. How bizarre.

Well, I'm not really sure what my place is here but I'm a pretty damn old member of this community so I feel entitled to grumble a view. Firstly, I think this argument is absolutely ridiculous. I mean, I can totally see how you guys are involved, how it's important etc etc, but coming from the outside and reading this all in one go, it just seems like the most minor, stupid thing to have an argument about. I'm not really taking sides, but if I had to I'd come down on the side of Jordan. polli's comments seem to be more reasonable this page but his comments on page 2 about Jordan going mad with power etc. etc. were completely unprovoked and out of order. Furthermore your dismissal of ann's attempt to help sort things out was rather rude, in my opinion. Either way, it seems to be mostly over now.
What I would say is, when Lina next pops by for her tri-annual visit, let's get her to appoint another moderator, just because having only one person in charge is inevitably going to cause threads exactly like this to pop up. So when Lina comes around we'll send her a few suggestions just to level the playing field for everyone involved. Does that sound fair?
Just god knows it shouldn't be me, I would've closed this thread the moment it got ugly and would have discussed it through PMs.

That's the thing about having more than one moderator - your impulse might have been to close the thread as soon as it got ugly, but there's other moderators to approve the decision. Two wouldn't work, since they might land 50/50 on a problem. I think you and ann would make excellent moderators.

What a wonderful idea! Unity of perspective! Why didn't I think of and suggest that?

"...unprovoked and out of order...", "...dismissal of ann...rather rude...", and finally the most important "it seems to be mostly over now...". And just when I thought I could let this go for a while, a fresh foe enters the fray. May I post something from the old forum? Oh, what the heck! I will anyway. "...I wish polliwog was still here, reckon he'd be the best for the job..." This was following the havoc I create in harassing scherado, and after I left the forum yet again in disgust. Now, who do you think I was quoting? I'll leave it up to you to provide the answer.

BTW, I don't care much for the idea of discussing any of this via PM. What's the point in that? What I have to say is meant for everyone here, and not just the person who seems to be the target. If you don't like what I say, add me as a foe. If you think I was insulting without cause, report me to the moderator so I can join scherado in exile. Oh, Mr. Moderator, I feel insulted by everyone in the proposed troika. Who will look out for my interests? No one, I expect. Oops! Was that another alleged abuse of power insult? For people that I consider to be intelligent, you can sure be clueless.

What is that supposed to mean? I take that as an insult. Of course, no one else will. That's pretty pathetic Alex, especially for a moderator.

Guys this is really descending into a travesty of a thread. I suggest it is closed.

polliwog, I was merely stating my view on things; I'm not "a new foe entering the fray", and you managed to quote most of my post back at me without actually saying anything about it; other than it conflicted with something I wrote a long time ago; do you really think that holds any weight? If you would like to continue this with me you can take it up via PM, although you clearly don't want to, but I won't continue this discussion with you any other way because I don't think it's particularly seemly just sitting here as a thread.
Guess why I made that comment on the old forum? It was because I missed you. As much as this may shock you, I really like you. To me, you've always been a valuable, insightful and entertaining member of this forum. Yet you don't seem to keep any objective distance from your posts on topics like this (where we sort out issues with each other / the forum), and frankly it looks a bit like you're picking for a fight here.
And to be honest, this was something I was going to leave out until I re-read your little 'clueless' snipe, I can't see anything in the content of your posts in this thread other than an astounding lack of maturity.

Jordan, I really get why you made that post, there's clearly a whole tether-ending situation going on here. At the same time that was damn petty and could only possibly exacerbate the situation.

Does anyone have a way of contacting Lina because I genuinely think just ushering in a few new mods to work alongside Jordan would sort this out. I think we should try and be constructive about all this.

i don't check this forum often and, when i do, i'm reminded of why that is. what a drag, man. i came by tonight to see what was being said about the Letterman performance and found the same old crap...scherado vs. polliwog. i realize scherado is gone. polliwog can't find the door?

Jordan, about the 'disagreement' we a short time ago...I realize that I let scherado's influence affect my judgment...again. This isn't a sudden flash of insight. It has gradually fallen into place since I first misunderstood a comment you made about my verbal and public jousting with scherado. I want to openly apologize, rather than send a PM, because what happened affected everyone who chose to read the things I wrote. So...I'm sorry, and I also apologize to anyone else who might have been disturbed but it.

For several days now I've been getting SQL Errors when I try to log in to the forum, and it keeps me from opening the webpage. It's not every time, obviously, or I wouldn't be here typing this right now, but it happens at least half of the time. I thought it might be my computer, so I tried my other one. Same problem. Anyone else having this problem?
