Deeply upsetting? I just watched Requiem for a Dream for the first time. Christ, that was cheeerful! (But really, really great.)

I've never seen Requiem For A Dream, but several years ago, a friend - who was quite a film expert - told me it was the most disturbing film she'd ever seen ... Now with these new recommendations, perhaps I should.

Sopranos is the best thing ever. Requiem for a Dream is great too, it's my favourite Aronofsky film by a mile. The story of the mother is particularly brilliant.

Yeah, the way her problems are the light relief at the start and then they just spoiler spoiler spoiler is... savage. I liked the Little Shop of Horrors references, too.

Steve, if you watch it, queue up My Neighbor Totoro to watch immediately afterwards, as an antidote.

I've finished chain watching the walking dead now I'm watching stranger things, which is very entertaining! Bit creepy at points.

Just finished the entire three series of Bron aka Broen aka The Bridge. Best thing I've seen in ages. I'm not a regular watcher of subtitled tv, and at first it was challenging to read the subtitles quickly enough to have time to divert my eyes back to the action, but it did get easier. It also proved that the little Swedish I did know has now completely vanished from my brain! The portrayal of Saga Norén was mesmerising - right up there with Karl Childers, Sara Waybourn, Miranda, Selma Ježková, Raymond Babbit (and maybe Lou Andreas Sand, but it's so long since I've seen that film that I could be over-egging that one a bit). I thought Martin, the other detective in series 1 & 2 was excellent too, as was his wife, but I did not warm to his successor I the final series. Interesting how it ceased to be about the crimes and their solutions, and became a study in trust between the various characters. I also liked how the 'baddie' in series 1 [spoiler coming...] looked like Jose Mourinho when he was trying to seduce Mette, and like Hannibal Lecter once he was in prison!

Maybe I'll give the Bridge a try, I'm running out of series to watch now. I also want to try Broadchurch and peaky blinders.

That's coincidental, QoN - my sister has recommended those two to me as well! I am lining up Broadchurch next ...
