I have to start reading the Theban plays for World Lit.
I'm not looking forward to it.
In the least.

The Theban Plays are some of the best literature ever written. I wrote a 5000 on them this term and don't think I've ever been more intellectually stimulated by my degree

I've read Oedipus the King and Antigone. I think I preferred Antigone. Ancient Greek literature is great. I think I liked Euripides better, but we only read Medea. Old Comedy is also really fun, we read Lysistrata. I get the impression it's all better in the Greek, but I was never able to take Greek to a high enough level to read any of it. I can only imagine how comparatively rubbish Cicero would have seemed if I'd only read an English translation of the Verrines; it must be the same with Greek literature. I should try to learn more Greek so I can read Herodotus in Greek, I love the Histories.

Remember, you must always pronounce his name "sofoccels" or people will laugh at you.

I don't know, it just never interested me when I've learned about it.
So I know more than any average American girl should know about the Spanish Civil War, and less-than-average about Ancient Greece

And now I'm reading The Fountainhead.
Which I am also a little wary of because it was given to me by a guy that loves manga.

Sophocles > Euripides for me anyday; Medea is quite good and The Bacchae is fantastic but Sophocles has the power of expressing the paradox of human experience in the most beautiful way. Also yes Jordan the classical comedies are way good, I especially love Aristophanes like The Frogs and of course The Satyricon. Juvenal also has his moments.

I just finished Slaughterhouse 5 which was absolutely brilliant, and am now reading The Unbearable Lightness of Being which I am enjoying hugely.
