I noticed that haha and felt silly for ever having it sound like "ease."

I pretty much alternated between Ys, Yz and Y. I've heard Whys...

What's the big deal? I've heard her say Ys before. Never thought it was anything else, either.

Well, I finally watched it. Parts 1 and 2. As I expected, I loved it. However, I disagree with her statement at the end. Is an understanding of Van Gogh, the artist, important to an appreciation of his paintings? I think so. So, why would an enriched understanding of Joanna not be important to a greater appreciation of her music? I don't separate what I know about Joanna from her music. They are one and the same.

So, a month later...where is part IV?

I'm pretty sure when Ys was released, lots of reviews would say (pronounced "ees"). Which I for some reason still took as a 'z', like 'ease'. Dunno why. I think I can only contribute my pronunciation to that, I don't think I ever thought about it much.

I remember reading/watching an interview where she said it might be pronounced "ee", but "ees" was at least an Americanized pronunciation so that's what she used.
I had a chat with my French teacher about it who grew up in Brittany, and she said in common usage it would be pronounced "ees" (though she didn't speak Breton, but I figure it was a pretty reliable source). Think she went into more detail about it but she did so in quite rapid French and I got a bit lost.

certainly i'm not a linguist, but everybody's here tell ysss, breton and 'insular' french, i've a breton friend who wrote a theatre piece called ys and he says ysss too, and all long the sketch everyone says ysss. no matter but i think ysss is prettier and easier than y
