Generally in pop music, the title of a song comes from the chorus or some word or phrase that is repeated over and over. If you didn't know the titles for any of Joanna's songs, what would you think they were based on lyrics alone. Example: Cosmia would probably be something like "Precious Heart" or something like that.
Swansea- If you wanna come on down Bridges and Balloons- Oh, my Love Sprout and the Bean- Should we go outside? (or maybe just 'Go outside') Monkey and Bear- Dance, darling '81- The Garden No Provenance- In your arms Jackrabbits- Love you again (Didn't people used to refer to it as this when she first started playing it?)
And I would possibly think that In California was called 'My Heart' because she repeats that a lot, but then again she does say both 'my heart' and 'my home' a lot throughout the album.
I thought the same thing for Soft As Chalk! For Swansea I would think something about "Wild Nights," but I think that is a Jon Cougar Mellencamp song and also sounds kind of dirty.
Only Skin - The Last One En Gallop - I Do Not Know Go Long - Mighty Men Occident - Long Life (or Slow Heart) Autumn - My Hometown Ribbon Bows - Eye of the Dog Kingfisher - The One You Love
It's too late to be grateful It's too late to be late again It's too late to be hateful
I would like an alternative title for the title track, because it bothers me (for some reason?) when a song and an album share the same title. Perhaps something about spiders or some such.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I would say \\\'bones\\\', but maybe I just like them too much. Also, for some reason, quoting people hasn\'t been working for me in the past few days.
Of course, I have one aim, the grotesque. If I am not grotesque I am nothing.
I think Ribbon Bows came from a poster who had seen the titles of the songs on the set list. I remember because there was some suspicion that they might be someone close to Joanna.
A lot of our alternative titles sound to me more like taglines or subtitles. I don't know how I'd suggest alternative titles, because hers all seem so spot on - maybe because she constructs them to focus your attention on some aspect of the song, e.g. Have One On Me as the title of the song directs you to the notion of sort of wanting to give some of yourself up to help but only making things worse, and giving thew album the same title directs you to that song and those lines as a kind of centrepiece, something to bear in mind while you're listening to the rest.
