I dunno I just can't remove the thoughts I've already had that are like - so she chose this line to encapsulate the intellectual and emotional meaning of the lyrics, therefore it has more importance than other lines so I now hear it that way and I can't really go back.
URSULABEAR i just realized this but is your location a josephine foster reference?
Also maybe you are in a soviet country that doesn\'t allow apostrophes? (pro-tip: all countries which are not america are nazi socialists)
Hieronymus Bosch, the triptych. I am not much on dutch masters, but that painting is so ahead of it\'s time. I agree, the do sound like taglines \'Cosmia- tender care for your Precious Heart.\'
Of course, I have one aim, the grotesque. If I am not grotesque I am nothing.
Using the most frequent words in the lyrics, here are her albums, retitled:
AND THE WILD KNOW 1. Oh Funny Little Thing 2. Danger 3. Right-On 4. Bless 5. Great One Light Came Over Wrote Imflammatory Writ (Oh Well) 6. I Know And See This Side Of The Blue 7. You And I Do Not Know The Beat 8. Cassiopeia 9. Go Run And Ride The Blue Peach Plum 10. Chew And Paw On The Wild Night 11. My Cold 12. Oh Look, Just Go Starry
(more to come, after breakfast!)

"Oh look, just go starry" is beautiful. Great stuff Steve. I love your application of stats to our little world. "Just Light" and "I miss you and your night away" are lovely too.
Reminds me of this track by Spoon called Paper Tiger. I'm not a big Spoon fan, don't really get them, but that track has some lines like "I'm not dumb, just wanna hold your hand, so alright" and "I will be here with you when you turn out the light" that are so unbelievably simple but cut right through to something inside me. Joanna more often appeals to something with a more complex taste inside me, although On a Good Day (which I'm listening to now) is also delicately simple, except it still has the poetics that raises it onto a different linguistic plane (neither better nor worse) to Spoon for me.
HEART DOWN: JUST HOW LITTLE I KNOW (1) HOW LONG 1. How Easy 2. You Daddy Longlegs (Down The Well) 3. Believe In My Garden 4. Just Right 5. Safe Arms 6. Long Dark Baby (2) I LOVE YOU 7. Hey! 8. The You And I Of It (Day Time...) 9. Cuckoo Heart 10. I Tell You I Can Love Again 11. Go Mighty Lonely Men 12. Long-Life (3) LOVE GOD, NOT SWEET HEART 13. Time And Lawlessness 14. Sweet Kind Esme 15. Over In My Hometown 16. God 17. Did Little 18. And I To You?
(OK so there's no justification for the "?" at the end, but it seemed to be necessary).
I should point out that I am using the most frequent "key" words, and in some cases padding with frequently used "link" words (like you, the, me, etc)... but I am using a bit of licence to include or exclude the latter at will, and also to chose a word order that makes some sense.
One word that comes up again and again is "down": should we read anything into that?
And to combine Joanna's whole œuvre - all the songs listed above, and doubling-up on the ones that appeared two separate releases, whilst ignoring the 'linking' words, here are the most used words:
oh 126 na 91 down 77 know 76 love 59 go 57 heart 53 see 52 little 51 night 51 just 49 come 47 away 46 say / water / light / day / how / well / through / gone
Top 'link' words are - the / and / I / you / a / of / to / in / my / it / me / that / your / we / is / on / with / oh / do / all / but / was / like
I rather fear this plays up to Weirdelves' scurrilous theory! Your challenge is to make a meaningful paragraph from these words ...
I love the HOOM titles. That does highlight a very prominent but not easily noticeable prevalence of... down-ness in her albums. Come to think of it, so much of the notable imagery happens downwards. Very odd.
I've always found it interesting how she often says 'my' in Have One On Me. I made a list of all the times she says it a while ago.
I think I've already mentioned here that she often says 'my heart' and 'my home' or 'my hometown', which to me shows the struggle between heart and home that seems to the theme of the album, and also I spotted in this list loads of mentions of body parts like legs, hands, wrists, which sort of makes the album seem more physical than the others. Also I think it goes with the fact that this album is more personal than the others (or at least more direct), therefore it contains more first person.
I've also done lists of all the mentions of night and darkness, stars and colours. I had kind of an obsession for a while of breaking her lyrics down into categories haha.
I was just thinking the other day that I wanted a list of Joanna's most used words and I should probably ask Steve for it haha.
I've been listening to Have One On Me a lot lately and I think possessiveness is such a huge part of the album. I really think one of its themes is the struggle with both possessing and being possessed, whether that's a negative or positive thing, and finding a balance. So that's really cool that that's reflected in the pronoun shift.
