By the way steve, thank you so much for setting this up! I wasn't really sure how to go about it, and got really busy, etc etc excuses excuses, but I am very excited that someone has gone ahead and done it!
In terms of the method, I suppose number two is the best to do. It seems like you understand the set-up very well, and that it won't affect the tournament too much. As it goes, I'm already really sad to see Ribbon Bows getting pwn'd by Soft As Chalk, and it'd be nice to see it back in. I'm sure I'll feel the same away about other songs. Method 2, I agree, is probably the best, especially since this is our first one, and a loser's bracket can make the task of tallying the tournament much more tedious.
Thanks again for setting this up dude, and I'm glad that you recognized the Nico song. Whenever I bring up any of her solo work, people are all about "Chealsea Girls", but this record is actually self-penned, and has a fucking awesome proto-goth sound to it that you don't hear anywhere else until the late 70s/early 80s. (Thanks largely, I am assuming, to John Cale and his genius.)
I agree wholeheartedly with you about 'The Marble Index' - Lawns of Dawns is a remarkable song, as are Facing The Wind, Prelude, Ari's Song (which reminds me ... I have the dentist next week), Julius Caesar, Roses in the Snow in the CD re-issue and 'Frozen Borderline' comp... in fact the whole album! And I also believe Cale's genius had a lot to do with channelling Nico's raw and otherworldly talent. Did you pick up that JN was a Terry Riley enthusiast (or at least, a near neighbour) .. and of course TR and JC made an album together... Small world, eh?
Thank you to the latest entrants, all votes are very much appreciated: Under a CPell, MadPawn, and all the others ... thank you for making this a worthwhile project.
On the basis of a couple of "nods", I think I will adopt Method 2, and thus give a handful of "beaten" songs a second chance, in case it was just their bad luck to be drawn against a popular favourite. They'll have an asterisk affixed to their title for the rest of the competition, and cannot be spared the drama of exile a second time. I hope that's fair.

And thank you, Jesse, for taking part. That's both of the original proponents now included, so I feel the thing is justified. And thank you to everyone for your kind comments.
The Second Round was originally intended to be sixteen pairings, but in view of my own re-think and comments from a few posters above, I've decided to go for a repechage system, (method 2 in my posting of yesterday) allowing some of the defeated songs a second chance. These will bear an "*" in the draw, and cannot be re-instated for a second time in a later round ... though the concept can still apply, whereby previous winning songs can get a second bite at the cherry.
The next question is "how many" should get a second chance. Originally I'd considered eight, since on voting at that point there were 8 songs looking like being eliminated yet having garnered 3 or more votes. Now there are several more, and I've noticed that there are 16 songs in this position that have received at least one vote (although I may complicate it by voting for a 17th myself). One of them, however, is in 3rd place in a group, and only has a share of a vote.
I am very tempted, then, to include the 16 'best losers' in the Second Round draw.
A further proviso will be that I will ensure that no losing song is pitched against a song it has faced in an earlier round. I do not foresee that as being a problem, but should it become unavoidable, perhaps in a later round, I think I will do some sort of 'carry over', so that, say, 50% of votes cast in a previous face-off will count again - but of course everyone will be invited to vote again.
I hope this is all acceptable to everyone.
As for timing ... I don't think I should go back on my two weeks statement for Round One to remain open. If it transpires that there are very few votes placed in the second week, I will consider speeding things up a bit for future rounds. This will also depend on my own workload, and I am conscious that I don;t want to rush this ... but nor do I want it to drag on for so long that it becomes stale.
Haha - chose your favourite JN songs - one from each of the 32 Groups listed in the second posting of the thread. Beyond that, you don't have to worry - it will all be taken care of for you. Just sit back in your comfy chair and have a nice sleep

Thank you to the latest contributors - Matt and Doublewuzzy. And to Polliwog: no offence was intended .. come along & play! (I'm probably older than you, anyway).
Doublewuzzy - you have me slightly confused, but I bow to your greater knowledge of RF & Lili de la Mora. I have checked my copy of Eleven Continents, and it has both Through The Trees [track 1] and Lifetime [track 12]. I've just re-listened to both, and they appear to be two different songs (both with very nice harp playing, too ). But it leaves me a slight conundrum as to how to interpret your vote, as I had these two songs in groups 30 and 10 respectively. Please get back to me and clarify it, as I am prepared to believe that there are other versions of the CD out there, or that the songs were somehow mis-labeled on the album art.
My original information was that Joanna played on three tracks on the RF & Lili de la Mora album 'Eleven Continents ' - namely, 1: Through The Trees, 11: Eleven Continents, and 12: Lifetime, and so I had included these in the draw, in Groups 30, 16 & 10 respectively.
However, I am now advised that she does not actually appear on Through The Trees, and indeed I have listened to it again (with my untrained ears) and indeed cannot find any evidence of harp playing on it. On the other hand, Lifetime features Joanna's harp heavily, and Eleven Continents has 'a sprinkling of chords'.
In view of this, and by way of an apology for my error, I believe that the correct course of action is to switch Lifetime from Group 10 into Group 30 (for what it's worth, Through The Trees can go the other way, but one would expect it to receive no votes if JN doesn't appear on it), thus allowing me to add doublewuzzy's vote into the tally.
These two groups now read as follows: Group 10: - This Side Of The Blue / Through The Trees [RL] / Orderly Manor [P] Group 30: - Lifetime [RL] / Don't Make Things [P] / Baby Birch
If anyone would like to object to this, please feel free to do so, either in the thread or by Private Message. Likewise, if anyone who has already voted would like to CHANGE their vote as a result of this change (or indeed for any other reason) - please post your revision in the thread.
My apologies for any confusion - I hope that this will prove to be a minor and 'one off' problem, and that it doesn't spoil your enjoyment of the Tournament.
PS - Is everyone else finding the 'please log me in each time I visit' option isn't working on this new forum?
I have to apologize myself - I somehow failed to see that Lifetime was in Group 10, because I would've picked that over This Side of the Blue. But maybe it was providence!
I wouldn't worry about it messing things up - I'm assuming most people haven't heard either song anyway! Although I have to say Lifetime blows This Side of the Blue out of the water, in my humble opinion
