Just wanted to ask ,do we have any infos about a new EP or something?
An After Tour EP for example!Something like Joanna Newsom & The Ys Street Band EP that she released 1 Year after te YS release!!What do you think?It will be SOOO NICE to have the "new" versions of Inflammatory Writ or Peach, Plum, Pear or Colleen in a new EP!!

Ah I'd love her to record a new EP but I read she is now too concentrated on the tour.

I hope she will record 'GIPC' with the epic finale she does at her shows.

I love the Ys Street Band EP.

Oops ... I sent Drag City some money before I realized it was all a dream.

I was disappointed after opening this too.



I would love to have a new EP, obviously, but one fact makes me think it'd be less likely. The reason the Ys street band EP was recorded was a lot to do with Joanna liking the new direction her songs took onstage, how they were transformed by repeated performance and improvisation. During the creation of HOOM Jo and Neil and Andy went out to a cabin in the woods to basically play the shit out of these songs over and over so they could get that effect on the original record. Also, the versions shes playing of HOOM songs live sound very similar to the versions on record, so it does seem unlikely.

Some of the songs on HOOM sound pretty different when she plays them live. And nice moderating! But take Have One On Me and Baby Birch. On the album they're a lot more sedate than at live shows. Both have had a lot more oomph when I've seen her. Take the Sidney Opera House recording of Have One On Me - it's pretty different to the album version, she practically spits the words, "as if God Himself spat like a cornered rat". An EP would be great, but did I not read somewhere that she's already writing new material, or did I imagine that?

I prefer her live versions of Baby Birch and Esme much more.

and agreed, there's something about how some of these songs are played live that just... i dunno. she just nails some of these songs. on the album there's just all these parts that i feel had the potential to be really intense, that she just sings without any kick to it. she seems to have solved this problem live.. so high quality recordings are always welcome.
