 You knew that would have to come up. Ugh, why do people have to be such asshats regarding Joanna? When I played that cover show, someone said "I like your voice much better than hers" and I wasn't really sure exactly how to take that. :err:

It's the Internet. I challenge you to find a single thing in the world that people aren't asshats about here.

What ever happened to that live, instrumental cover of Have One on Me someone posted somewhere on the forum? I remember it was pretty good and was surprised to see it didn't make the album but when I went back to listen to my copy I couldn't find it.
I love the album, by the way. In my opinion most tribute albums suck but this one is consistently enjoyable and the artists offer a different way to hear her music.

doublewuzzy, your cover of En Gallop is so great. It's in my top 3. Are there any other fans of Chris Leeds' Clam Crab Cockle Cowrie? That one is my favorite.

I created my own compilation CD from Versions Of Joanna:

1. “Easy” – This Is Deer Country
2. “Monkey & Bear” – Ian Cooke
3. “Sadie” – M. Ward
4. “Sprout and the Bean” – The Moscow Coup Attempt
5. “Swansea” – Melissa Stylianou
6. “Sawdust & Diamonds” – Ben Sollee
7. “Book of Right-On” (instrumental) – Guy Buttery
8. “This Side of the Blue” – Jennifer Schmitt
9. “In California” – Rosa Hinksman
10. “Autumn” – A Voice Heard on Baer Mountain
11. “Inflammatory Wit” – White Elephant Gift Exchange
12. “On a Good Day” – Billy Bragg
13. “Baby Birch” – Sarah Katheryn

These are the covers I like best. I particularly like "Easy", "Sprout and the Bean", and how Voice Heard on Baer Mountain make the odd "Autumn" even odder.

My favourite cover?

A tarp.

thanks for the compliment! a voice heard on baer mountain is my band! (here's our blog for anyone interested, we only have some noisy things up right now: baermountain.blogspot.com )

the internet at my college doesn't let me connect to this board successfully, but when i return home in a few days, i will post what i think of the comp!

Eric
Have you tried using an anonymizer to access the board?
Also, may I ask what University? I understand them stopping P2P traffic of illegal copyright material, but a discussion forum seems quite extreme.

Will Volume 2 finally have the excellent Decemberists cover? O:-)

It's not any regulations at all, but rather some strange cache or something that immediately logs me out right after i sign in to the board! it happens on most message boards i'm a part of. i have no idea what the problem is. it's a kind of miracle that i'm posting right now, i think i've found some way around it.

i really enjoyed the compilation except for one song, which was pretty horrible.

I particularly loved Ian Cooke's Monkey and Bear, The Sprout and the Bean, The Joel Cathey version of The Book of Right-On, Easy, Autumn, and En Gallop
I really love how she did the guitar chords on easy, and the banjo is always a nice touch
