Louis Theroux
Posted: 06 Aug 2020, 23:35I was watching an old Louis Theroux documentary this evening, and was blown away to hear a snippet of Joanna's Book of Right-On used as incidental music. On Googling it, I discovered that I still had a bit of "En Gallop" to look forward to, and that another piece of her music was used in a different documentary. Also, the music editor is apparently a JN fan, explaining his choices.
The Book of Right-On extract was instantly recognisable, but somehow different to the MEM version - It sounded slowed down a bit, and perhaps with a bit more reverb. These effects were taken a step further in "En Gallop", to the point where I am not 100% sure I'd have recognised it without forewarning, even though it is one of my absolute favorites of hers. It almost sounded as though parts of the mix had been removed altogether, although I doubt that was possible. Neither clip was very long, and there were no vocals (leaving the possibility that they were re-recordings, or ever covers).

(These are both listed as 'series 1', although it would appear to be a very long and sporadic series. It currently consists of 33 episodes, the first broadcast in 2003, and the latest (to date) in January 2020. He has continued to make other documentaries in similar styles but as part of different umbrella projects throughout this period.
