What do you guys think in terms of "Inflammatory Writ":

the album version: "wrote and hunched"
or the live version: "hunched and wrote"

???

This is clearly VERY important and I think you guys are probably the only ones who'd understand its importance. I've been doing "wrote and hunched" for years, but I started thinking recently I should switch it up and do it how she does it more currently.

My Joanna cover show is friday and I'm kinda excited. I think I am going to dress like her (circa 2004-2006ish) and basically pretend I am her except without a harp. Nobody will know the diff.

Well, I'm always singing the album version, so I'm partial to that one.

Yeah, obviously that's the one I was used to...but it feels more insider-y to do it the other way, since only a true fan would notice the difference. :P
Plus it's what she's been doing more recently, so I assume she decided she likes it that way better. *insert shrugging icon here*

Wow, weird. I was singing Inflammatory Writ to myself, decided to check the forum, and clicked on this post -- forgetting what it was about -- right when I sang "wrote and hunched"! Haha, just a strange coincidence.

ANYWAY: obviously, it's your preference. You're right in that it will be clear you're paying attention to her and staying true to what she's decided to do, but I just think "wrote and hunched" sounds better. Whenever I hear her sing the other way around, I'm taken aback. Obviously just because I'm used to it, but I dunno, I like "wrote and hunched!"

My input is so lame, sorry.

Nah, your input is pretty much on target with what my Joanna-loving friends said. I dunno. I'm leaning towards the live version, but everyone else is leaning towards the album version. D% I admit, usually the album version is what I automatically sing without thinking. But I have been listening to the live version a lot, and I really like what they've done with it, so that has kind of been my inspiration for my cover. You know, when she says "wrote and hunched" I always thought she was saying "wrote him, hunched" and I had the damndest time getting out of the habit of singing that when I started covering the song.
But yeah, I'm thinking about it wayyyy too much, probably. Analyzing it like, "well...you would hunch over and THEN start writing, rather than the other way around..."

Well until reading this, I'd always heard "I wrote him hunched till 4:30..." which seems to make the best sense to me even after realising what the correct version is. See I'm proper transatlantic when I wanna be ... even though by all rights there ought to be a "to" before "him" in my interpretation.

So - if you want your listeners to have a choice of interpretations, I'd go with "wrote and hunched"; but if you want to drill it home to them what it should be, go for "hunched and wrote".

I'd suggest that "wrote and hunched " sounds more natural, because "I-wr..." comes easier than "I-hu..." to most mouths.

But best of all is Cosmia's interpretation - brilliant!

Hi Harlyre

Thanks for offer, but the tracklist for the project is closed and 90% of the tracks recorded and submitted

Would surely encourage you to re-do the song with all the strings on the harp :)

And who knows as far as another JN cover project, I got quite a few more offers than I had anticipated :)
