Thanks so much for sharing, Ludag! I'm having trouble opening it, though... Every time I click the link to the .pdf, it sends me to the Freehostia page. What am I doing wrong? I'm a bit technologically inept
.

you're welcome. Unfortunately is a little bit compressed otherwise it were too big for a faster download, but it's ok to read it or just to have a preview.

I love her so much.
I don't know how to explain it, but I just adore the way she approaches her femininity. It seems so often to me that people who consider themselves feminists or seem to feel strongly that women shouldn't be thought of as silly, less-intellectual, more, to use the word used in the article, "enchanting", also brush off so much of the stuff that is so wonderful about being a woman. I think Joanna is very obviously a "strong" woman, but she doesn't ignore the fact that she is one. I love that she dresses up in pretty dresses (in everything listed in "Does Not Suffice") and completely embraces her womanhood, sisterhood, motherhood, etc. while still being brilliant and strong and smart, and not losing a bit of that.
I also admit, I adore that she's seemed to always mention motherhood in her music and her quote about being a mom. Ever since I've decided that I want to be a young mother/mother that stays primarily at home, rather than work on a career, I've come across so many women who openly look down upon that sort of lifestyle. I hear things like, "It's so sad when a girl thinks all she can accomplish in life is to just have babies." But what if that is what someone wants out of life? How is attaining exactly what you want out of your life sad?
Anyway, I appreciate that Joanna Newsom is brilliant, talented, very intelligent, and yet embraces her femininity and the idea of being mother.

you know, i'm a feminist, i'm part of activ group in france, and the first thing i defend, it's the right to a woman, girl to be OR NOT a mother, and stay home if she wants, i defend the right to the MEN to have child and stay home too, it's enough to this 90's carreer greed. each time i hear such crappy girls with a grin on their faces saying "so sad to a woman to stay home" i just reply to them "what do you do so important that society deserves you'll be part of it???" have a crap job and thing it's powerful is a pity, i always say that cinema is all my life but all my life isn't included into cinema, i know, when i'll be old near death, cinema wouldn't hold my hand, but husband, children, friends, family does, so fuck off "pseudo working girls" and go to the mama trip!!!!!!!!!!
