Thank you very much for organising this, Steve!! ... And going through with it despite the dwindling user numbers here. I'm a little surprised that the recent album hasn't been more successful after a year of getting more and more familiar with the songs.
However, my votes are:

Thank you for the potted history, Steve! I've listened to both the EPs at least a couple times but I've never spent a lot of time with them. I would find them interesting from an historical point of view but for now I prefer the "official" releases if for no other reason than they have better production qualities, and arguably better versions of many of the songs. Personally I prefer the shorter version of "En Gallop(!)".
I guess we'll see how the final scores go, Julia, but for me I don't think I've voted for all that many Divers songs as although I rate it as one of my all-time favourite albums, I find some of the songs weak on their own merits -- so they don't fit that well into the format of the tournament. For example, I think every song on Ys is great individually and I would rank them all above (say) "Same Old Man" or "The Things I Say".
On to the votes...

In response to Julia's comment I would say that a year after diver's release and I have very polarized responses to different songs on the album. My favourite songs continue to grow in stature in my mind (especially Anecdotes and Sapokanikan, but really the whole first half) but others, especially the second half of the album, fall a bit flat for me in comparison with her earlier work. It's not that I dislike them exactly, but they just leave me feeling a bit 'meh'.
I'm interested to see where Make Hay will fall over time. Right now I would place it among the top five songs from Divers. But in a year, who knows how it might change.

Steve: considering the traffic on Milky Moon has fallen so sharply I wonder you would be interested in organizing next year's contest through the Facebook group? A separate group page could be set up specifically for the contest so that the responses wouldn't overwhelm the main page - but I'm sure you'd get a much higher turn out. I hate to give in to FB as a corporate platform (whose layout and functionality still annoys me), but for better or worse that's where the fans are convening at the moment. Thoughts anyone?
Re moving to Facebook, I guess that's up to Steve and what value he places on having more participants.
The main problem with the Facebook groups is that they are something of a maelstrom -- it is much harder there to keep track of threads over a period of weeks, and Facebook's algorithms tend to display posts with most activity, disfavouring quieter, older posts, and thereby leading to 1) an echo chamber in which the slower posts get left behind 2) a bias towards more contentious posts (as these tend to generate more activity).
The tournament was publicised on the main Facebook group but I'm not sure how well that message spread.
In fact, I might go over and make a post now, publicising the forums in general that is. Recent events on the Facebook groups might make this an apposite time to reverse the diaspora.
Thank you for your votes, Under a CPell, madpawn, solfatara, Julia, Adam, and Headless_Caboose. To everyone else, there are now only about 5 hours left to get your votes in for this the final act in the 2016 Joanna Newsom Song Tournament. Thank you, too, for some interesting comments.
Julia - thank you for your kind words. In relation to the points raised by you and Adam, I would also concur that Divers works best as a whole - for instance, Time, As A Symptom makes a fine closer, and the two songs on either sides of the title track (The Things I Say and especially Same Old Man) work perfectly to bookend Divers, but each of these three songs is, to me at least, less arresting as a stand-alone piece. That is no criticism, but just making the point that hey will perhaps under-achieve in the context of a JNST.
I also tend to agree with Headless_Caboose, though, that once I've listened past the song Divers on the new album, I feel that the best is behind me. Again, that sounds like I am doing the album down, which I am not - it is bar far my most listened to album of 2016, and that's from start to finish. Make Hay didn't really grab me on the few listens I've given it: my first reaction was that I could see why it was omitted from the album, and I would categorise it somewhat like Colleen, which is not one of my favourites.
In the meantime, here are my votes for the eleventh and final set:

Hi Adam - thank you for your input, which came between me starting my message and hitting SUBMIT. You've actually touched upon one or two the areas that I was unsure / concerned about on FB, which is interesting, but I'd need to learn a bit more about how it works to see how best to adapt JNST to work there - or at least to have input from FB-users, even if it continues to be 'hosted' here where I am comfortable with the format and can keep an eye on it.
Mind you, that's not to say that I have a "monopoly" on the JNST: it was originally mooted in 2011 by a user called Lawns Of Dawns (who's not been here in quite a while, I believe), and I put it together only because no-one else had. I really enjoy doing it, too, but if another user would like to do it, with perhaps some fresh ideas and a familiarity with the other platform, the I wouldn't throw any toys out of the pram.
Speaking of which ... so what has been going on over at FB? Can you spill the beans, Adam, so I can share in the gossip!

So Only Skin reaffirmed its status as our favourite Joanna Newsom song to date, in the end winning with a comfortable points margin after recording eleven straight wins in the final. Indeed, its closest scores were 4-2 (against Have One On Me) and 4½-2½ (against Sapokanikan).
Ys songs occupied four of the top five places, only Have One On Me breaking the monopoly from that album. These four Ys songs (Only Skin, Emily, Cosmia, and Sawdust & Diamonds) have all appeared in the top six in each of the six editions of the JNST, with the single exception that S&D dropped to 11th last year.
The best performing song from Divers this year was Anecdotes, which was comfortably ahead, in points terms, of its nearest challenger from that album, Sapokanikan (9th).
The Milk-Eyed Mender had only one representative in the top division, Sadie finishing 11th.
Division Two also featured at least one song from each of the main albums, with Divers providing both the top (the title track) and bottom (Goose Eggs) songs in this section.
Division Three was a real mixed bag of songs in my opinion, and it was very close at the top. '81 actually polled the most votes, but finished down in 4th place, behind three songs which won nine of their eleven pairings, Autumn, Leaving The City, and A Pin-Light Bent respectively.
Next I will post an analysis of the all-time results of JNST.
Thanks very much for organising this, Steve. It looks like a lot of work, especially the final reckoning.
It surprises me that "Anecdotes" came out ahead of "Sapokanikan"; I thought that the latter was a firm fan favourite. I suppose that is reflected in the average results though, just not this year. And "Only Skin" remains undefeated! It is a shame that "Make Hay" missed out on the chance to compete.
Re: the parallel, massively-off-topic conversation going on here (hey, at least only having one active thread on here makes it easy to keep up with new posts...)
In regards to running the tournament again: I think it would be a case of seeing what the 'landscape' of the community looks like at the time (in another six or twelve months, I'm guessing?).
In regard to the drama: in a nutshell, a flamewar erupted after someone posted a recent video of JN on stage at I think a Golden Shoulders gig, in what appeared to be maternity wear. There was some speculation, obviously, but that was a matchstick in comparison to the furnace of debate as to whether it was an appropriate thing to be talking about. The sad fact is that I imagine many people didn't care that much either way about the initial speculation, but it was always at the top of the group and so the flames kept getting fanned until it was closed, and shortly after, deleted.
A little before that, in some kind of unwitting parody of the Judean People's Front (or was it the People's Front of Judea?), the volume of Biggus Trumpus debate that wafted in caused some of the more left-leaning elements to break away to a separate group. It's been truly astonishing to follow.
I have mooted the idea of moving some of the more involved discussion, such as analysis of lyrics, elsewhere (maybe back to these forums). It has received a little attention, but I only posted it yesterday evening and already you would have to scroll past some 15 posts to find it again!
