I'm sure many of you might have a long list of questions (as I do) but I'm curious to know whats on the top of your list. If you met Joanna and could ask her one question, what would it be?

well this was just my attempt at starting some conversation since this forum is dead until someone posts anything about a new joanna record.
Since thats obviously not coming anytime soon... seriously 93 people can look at this thread and NO ONE has an answer? Or is even interested in starting a fun thread?

Yeah I'm usually interested in keeping some activity going on here as well until something new pops up, whether it's Joanna-related or not there's something nice about chatting to fellow Joanna fans!
In this case though it was just not my kind of question to engage with - though I don't know about other fans' reasons. I don't tend to think about Joanna as a real person too much, but focus more solely on her art. The impact her music and her lyrics have on me makes it a bit scary to remember that she is real out there.
(I think I'm secretly a bit afraid of becoming too obsessed generally so I have to keep my brain away from that sort of thing heh)

I didn't answer because I really don't know what I'd ask her! I wouldn't want to ask her a question about her personal life, since I think she deserves privacy as much as the next person. I think all the questions I might ask her about her work have been covered in interviews already. I wouldn't want to ask her about the meaning of her lyrics, since I'd rather figure it out for myself - that's most of the joy of poetry, plus the death of the author and all that...

I think if I met her I'd just want to express my gratitude and admiration. You know, "Thank you so much for doing what you do and I really hope you keep doing it."

I don't think I very keen about meeting artists. they are strangers after all and as I am a shy person and don't want to disturb people, I guess this is really irrelevant. on the other hand, a kind remark and some compliments are very welcome but no further.

Honestly, I would say, "Thank you for your music." and ask to take a picture with her.

When I've met other favorite musicians I've ended up having some pretty weird conversations with them naturally. Either that or just an awkward geeked out snap shot and that's it.

Yeah - I'd want the chance to express my gratitude and I might ask for a memento of the occasion if I was feeling cheeky.

i'd like to know what the fuck is she doing ? except enjoying her gigantic house...we need something new under our tooth here, milkymoon is dying...

We endure. It's in the nature of a forum dedicated to an artist who releases work only after years of meticulously perfecting it that there are slow news periods. Once we get a new album, there'll be a flurry of activity and it'll die down again until she starts performing new songs live.

Plus, when we do have something to talk about - the new live songs, say - we do become more active for a while until we've exhausted the topic. And the discussions here - mostly to do with deciphering the lyrics - end up as the basis for information elsewhere on the Internet. Most of the lyrics (such as on the dedicated Joanna Newsom lyrics site) originate from our efforts here before the lyric sheet is released.

I still log on roughly every day, or a few times a week at least, to keep the spammers at bay and approve posts by new users.
