I think she's begun every set ever with Bridges and Balloons, so I love the tradition. It probably warms her up and grounds her, the ritual of playing it.
Also, as one of us who has loved her music for over 10 years now, it really reminds me of how much the music has meant to me, and how much B&B first captured me when I played The Milk Eyed Mender for the first time.

The first notes of Bridges & Balloons were the first thing of Joanna's I ever heard, and when i heard the line 'catenaries and dirigibles' not long after, I knew that this was can artist who was going to appeal to me in a very special way. So as far as I'm concerned, she can open with it forever.

The encore in Utrecht was actually Baby Birch, though the printed setlist said Peach, Plum, Pear. It was a fabulous concert!

Lovely concert, but they did disappear awfully quick from the stage after Baby Birch! Let's hope that she actually meant it when she said "we'll be back soon!"
