LONDON, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has praised China's total ban on ivory trade as an important and far-reaching decision.

""China has struck a blow against elephant poaches by closing down its domestic ivory market,"" said Johnson in a press briefing on China's full implementation of the ban on ivory trade. The event was jointly held in the British Parliament Wednesday by the WWF, All Party Parliamentary China Group and the Chinese Embassy in the UK.

""China's enlightened and foresighted decisions, would give humanity a chance to reverse the tragic decline of the African elephant,"" said Johnson, stressing that the British side is willing to work with China to combat poaching and protect rare wild species.

Existing rules allow for ""worked"" or carved items produced before March 3 , 1947 to be sold in the UK while sale of raw ivory of any age is prohibited. Johnson said he looks forward to seeing a complete ban on the sale of ivory in Britain and the EU.

""The only question is where we have the collective will. And I believe that today is a manifestation, I think it's great that the UK and China are united and expected on this, on this policy, we are more forward looking the ambitious in our ban and the European union,"" the British minister said.

Zhu Qin, Minister-Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in the UK, said protecting the wildlife is a key to save environment. ""Out planet is our only home. It is also crucial to the future of human civilization. In the past five years , china has make remarkable progress in building ecological civilization both at home and for ecological Conservation of the world,"" he said.

Charles Mayhew, CEO of Tusk, which represents Prince William's charity, told Xinhua that China has made a huge significant move to support the protection of African elephants and ""UK should follow the way in China's lead.""

John Stephenson, CEO of Stop Ivory organization, said China's efforts are significant in two aspects. ""One is the ban get implemented and two is the neighbouring countries learn from China's leadership and begin to engage.""

He believed China's move is a massive step but it can not do it all by its own , and others need to step forward as well. ""We fully expect UK government to announce a stronger ban.""

Whenever Yue Ming, a 32-year-old bank worker and amateur film critic, is asked what his favorite movie is he always says the Resident Evil series. So, it's expected that he would be in the audience when the sixth installment of the Resident Evil franchise opened in China on February 24.

Adapted from Japanese video game manufacturer Capcom's famous work of the same name and starring American actress Milla Jovovich, the first Resident Evil movie hit the big screen in 2002. Fifteen years, five sequels and two animated films later, the franchise still has a strong fan base.

Although only the last three films in the series were shown on the Chinese mainland , the franchise has been quite well received. According to cbooo, a website that collates China box office data, the fourth Resident Evil film, Afterlife (2010) made 135,580,000 yuan ($19,716 ,999) in box office earnings, and by February 27, the box office earnings of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter had made over 654,170,000 yuan.

"It's an end to a movie series that spanned 15 years. I cannot help thinking about the thrill and shock when I watched the first movie years ago. It was absolutely the No.1 disaster, science and action movie," Yue said.

He thinks there are two reasons Chinese viewers love Resident Evil. First , it came out at the beginning of the 21st century when there were barely any good scary movies and science fiction films available in China. Also, zombie-themed games and movies were also nonexistent.

"That is why Resident Evil was No.1 in the area. First impressions are the strongest," Yue said. "You cannot deny that the Resident Evil film series was an outstanding example for zombie movies that came afterward."

Second, the movie's storyline, which pits good against evil, appeals to Chinese tastes, as Chinese filmgoers "tend to appreciate when there is fierce fighting between justice and evil , and justice wins," Yue said.

"Stories like these will always be successful at the box in China. Most Chinese prefer action and adventure movies rather than art and literary films," he said, adding that more than 80 percent of the scenes in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter and another American film xXx: The Return of Xander Cage (2017) involved action, and both were well received by Chinese viewers.

According to him, Chinese filmgoers have a hero complex.

"I think some of us view Alice as the Monkey King, who always wins no matter what kind of setback and difficulty he encounters ," he said. "They are not unhappy and scared to watch the scary movie because they know Alice is sure to win, and with the cool fighting scenes and elaborate special effects, they just enjoy it."

Although the film continues to make money at the box office, there are still many critics online. Most of them question the logic and cohesion between the final film and it predecessors.
